On Saturday the 21 February 2009 at about 11:15 PM the second
Violent Crime Suppression Team was working their first
weekend and was patrolling in the area of the 17 Ave SW bars.
One of the team members, while on foot patrol, saw a vehicle
and occupants known to be involved in the drug trade driving
down 17 Ave SW. The vehicle was stopped on 17 Ave near 2 St.
SW. and as the officers approached the vehicle, which had the
windows and sunroof open, they could smell burnt marijuana.
While dealing with the three occupants of the vehicle the
officers located a quantity of cocaine, scales, cash and a
loaded handgun.
Edmond Olumide COLE, 19 years, Frederick HARRISON, 23 years,
and Okpoti Randi KONEY, 21 years, all from Calgary have each
been charged with:
- possession of cocaine for the purposed of
trafficking
- possession of property obtained by crime
- careless transportation of a firearm
- possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
- unauthorized possession of a firearm
- knowingly having possession of a restricted weapon
- unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor
vehicle
- possession of a restricted weapon with ammunition
In addition, KONEY, is charged with breach of a prohibition
order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation
order.
