All depends on your budget, but any hotel located around Kalakaua Ave, between Kapahulu Ave & Royal Hawaiian would work just fine.

    Here is a map.

Don't waste time at Waikiki, its shallow, crowded and can get really dirty.

Make sure to go to Hanauma Bay, have a few beach days and go to Sandy Beach and North Shore.

My favorite beach is Kai'Lua Park Beach. Its small, but has nice sand, shaded areas, and has not been as crowded the few times I've been there.

Have Fun! Make sure to go barter for cheap prices at the International Market.

Eat at Duke's for dinner at least once while there.

Here are my top picks for things to do.

Surfing - North Shore (Bonzai Pipeline)

Beginner Surfing - Waikiki just in front of the closed off swimming area. Its really deep there and you can catch some really nice waves, and if you wipe out, you don't have to worry about hitting bottom.

Boogy Boarding - Hands down - Makapuu Beach (Its World Famous)

Best Beaches - Lanikai beach & Waimanalo beach (Rated #1 beaches in all of Hawaii)

    Snorkelling - Hanauma Bay

    Restaurants - Roy's (Best handsdown)

Recreational activities - Paradise Cove Luau (Rated #1) , Ocean Joy Cruise & Kualoa Ranch.

    Scenic places - Waimea falls

    Enjoy!

in my opinion, honolulu is way too commercialized, u don't get that tropical island feeling. u can buy flights between islands for dirt cheap, go to maui, kona or Kauai.

i went to maui and honolulu last year, and maui was 100x better in my opinion

    I totally disagree.

You can have everything Maui has plus a night life.

Maui is for old people who don't like to do anything but sit on a beach chair and watch the waves.

i stayed at the hilton prince kuhio. i was pretty impressed by everything there for the price. plasma tv in every room, modern and newly renovated.

only small fuss is that there is a window between the bathroom and the main room(with blinds though)....if you are with a SO then no biggie, but i remember reading the reviews before booking there and lots of people did not like that at all...enough to write about it?

Make sure you goto Hanauma bay at 6AM or as soon as they open. If you go later, you might not get in. Also, all the japanese will kick up the sand and you won't see shit.

We made the mistake of going to maui after waikiki and it was the most boring week of my life. Only go to maui if you like to do nothing but relax. We stayed at the westin and the beach in front was actually pretty shitty compared to waikiki.

Are you guys all students on a budget or something?

My lunch tab is that much for two people.

Rent a house on the Ocean on the North shore, mid sized car rentals are ~$13/day and you can drive most anywhere in an hour tops unless you want to go to the complete opposite side of the island. You get total freedom, WAY nicer accommodation for probably even cheaper, and you don't have to be around millions of other tourists when you don't want to.

I HIGHLY recommend going on a shark tour (we used Hawaii Shark Encounters) and it was the highlight of our trip by a significant margin. Make sure you snorkel in Hanauma bay too.

Just came back from Hawaii and stayed at this hotel. No complaints. Cost was $200us/night for an oceanview. Was not bothered by the glass separation.

Nice thing about this hotel is that it is two blocks from the ocean and walking distance to most everything (zoo, aquarium, ocean, shopping, clubs, restaurants etc..)
