    Default Classes?

Welp, after my 40D or 50D post, I decided to go with the 40D. I ended up getting the 40D with the 17-85mm kit at Memory Express.

I haven't done even unwrapped the camera yet as I've been reading the instruction manual to know what the heck everything is .

Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody can suggest any intro classes that I should consider taking? I heard SAIT has some good courses?

I can do the readings online because I know there are a lot of resources, but I'd like to consider taking some classes as well.

SAIT comes to mind right away, have always heard good things although I have not taken any courses there. Considering it however to see what all the hub-bub is about.

Oh ya, did I mention good choice on the body??

Good call on the 40D over 50D.

If you have the time, everything and more you can lean in the classroom is available on the internet for free. Read/learn/talk to people on the internet, go practice, come back and analyse your results, repeat. I prefer that over the classroom environment personally but its totally your call as everyone learns differently.

EDIT: Download an EXIF program such as Opanda so you can see what settings were used to take various photos. I remember I found that useful.

Before you sign up for a class, check out the Canon online tutorial

    http://www.usa.canon.com/content/Reb...ons/index.html

    its very good for beginners

    Then go to

    and remember rule of thirds

A good exercise is to go on pbase, flickr, smugmug or forum, find the photos that appeal to you and decontruct and recreate them with your camera. Understand the relationships between aperture, shutter speed, iso, dof, and focal length.

oh shoot in A,S, M modes

most of all, enjoy your camera !

    btw, good choice on body

    Great choice on the Body

I purchased this and it was genuinely extremely helpful (at least for me). Might be worthwhile to look at:

    Michael Andrew 40D DVD

Also, if you're learning on your own, I would strongly suggest these books:

Teaches you everything you need to know about exposure. Highly recommended.

    And this one

It's aimed at beginner/hobbiests. Uses plain language (no techinical jargon). Filled with fantastic tips and tricks. Serves as a great foundation to build and improve you skills on.
