Tax return for previous years?

Hello,

Doing my taxes for this year I noticed that you can deduct medical expenses. I had laser eye surgery in 2006 totaling $3000 which I never deducted as I never seen this health deduction before (is this new?). I always use quick tax and didn't even know we could deduct health expenses. Assuming this isn't something new, can I refile for 2006 and claim this 3 grand as a deduction?

You can submit changes online on the cra website. Submit changes and you will get reassessed. I did it with one of my tuition things.

You will either have to sign up for My Account on CRA or fill out a T1-ADJ (T1 Adjustment Request) form. Do not refile an actual T1 return. It will be a credit, not a deduction. I would actually suggest filling it out by using the form because since you have never claimed the credit, there is a high chance CRA will be asking for your supporting documents/receipts.
