Default crashed 2007 cobalt ss, looking for comparables

My bro got t boned and destroyed his 2007 cobalt ss.

Now he got some insurance money and we are trying to find a good fast brand new car. He is looking to spend around 30k.
He is thinking about the new cobalt ss or the mazda 3 speed.

Personally the speed seems way better for the money but im wondering if anyone else has some comparable suggestions.

Buy 10 neons, chain them together and make a choochoo train out of them.

    +1.

Or, the Cobalt SS Turbo. Fastest car in its class.

The 2010 GTI looks super-nice, but is not available yet. With today's news, I'd be a little nervous about a GM product.

Dollar for dollar, it's tough to beat the performance of the new Cobalt SS.

I'd go with an '09 Cobalt SS. I've heard awesome reviews thus far about them.

Genisis = very cool, but very new - could be some future issues adjustments? Still worth it for the unique factor for now here in calgary.

cobalt ss = been around a few years now, most bugs worked out and finally doing the right thing and turbo'ing instead of SC

I'm leaning towards Gensis just because I'm 1/2 asian

the other half says VW, but I won't go there

If he's going for brand new get the new Cobalt SS turbo. The car is unreal to drive, has so many great features and is very easy/cheap to modify. If your looking for more information on the car visit www.cobaltss.net and look in the 2.0 litre turbo section. If he wants a used car I'd wait for the spring and get the new ralliart or maybe pick up a used 05-07 STi. Sorry to hear about your brother accident but at least he is getting a new car out of it!

nothing a 5 year/100,000km warranty wont fix. i have to say though, the no lift shift is pretty freaking sweet in the cobalt.
