Default I have a bunch of money in a CD acount in the states...

hey, as stated I have a bunch of money in a CD account down in the states, it was put in there for college but I have chosen to become an Electrician and now need a reliable form of transportation to and from work. I have recently tried to withdraw some money but they told me I need some blue piece of paper and I also need a Court order to withdraw, I was wondering if anyone know's where I would go in calgary to set up a court date and what this blue piece of paper that I need is

any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

What is this blue piece of paper called?

CD is sort of our version of GIC.

Bank failures in US exposed a lot of CD frauds lately where savings sold as CD isn't really backed by FDIC.

Who was the executor of his will? They may have the information you need.

    Who was the successor?

Have you actually read the trust? Does it stipulate to what happens if you don't attend college? It might end up reverting to the other beneficiaries if you don't fulfill the requirements needed to get the money.

He can't be the executor of his own will. An executor is basically in charge of the deceased's belonging's. When he died someone was in charge of what happened to all of his belongings and money. It very well could have been the state if he didn't have a will.

There should be a copy of his will with someone showing that you are in fact entitled to the CD. If not, the CD should have you listed as a beneficiary.

You need to find out who handled all the stuff like funeral arrangements, selling of property, furniture, banks accounts.

Is your grandma is still alive?

    ^ It's a trust, not a will.
