Is there anyway to opt out of paying SU dues?
actually you CAN opt out of SU fees if you file a complaint and ask for your money back.. my friend did that two years ago cause he was so cheap, and they refunded his money, but they gave him a huge hassle to do it.

Yup. You can opt out but the process of doing so is not worth the money you get back.

    My time is worth more.

In that case I will have to run next year. Please give me your support!

You only need a couple hundred votes to win right? If I knew it was costing 30k/2 semesters I would have been more careful with my votes.

    VOTE PAMELA! WOOOOOO

    Pamela, what are you ideas?

    Well...blah blah blah for students!

Thank you Pamela, that sounds great. Oh one last thing, well sort of a deal. I'll give you my vote if you tell me how much money you will make this if you win.

Not to doubt you Mazdavirgin, but who or where did you hear this from?

Didnt know you could get your money back from SU. They probably dont take individual requests too seriously, but Im guessing if there was a group of people doing it, it would be more effective. Wonder if I could get all 3 years worth of BS SU fees refunded. That's like $300 right there.

Default UofC having fun with the censorship

    http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Ca...523/story.html

Frankly the track record of the UofC is getting quite abysmal when it comes to freedom of speech. First these poor saps and then the abortion protesters. Well I guess it won't be long before they try to shut down the Gauntlet.

what does the abortion protest have to do with freedom of speech? the university wasn't telling them they couldn't demonstrate, just that they should exercise discretion. as well, the issue was about trespassing - not freedom of speech.

but i agree with you that this recent case with facebook is pretty silly.

They threaten to expel them if they don't apologize? What if they're right?! They get expelled yet win the court case? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation, but that would utter and complete horseshit.

Profs love to threaten legal action to remove public criticism. They feel theyre more knowledgable and almost above the law, which is quite sad. Sadly, most sites/owners fold when expensive lawyers are involved.

We've been legally threatened before as well by a prof. Never went to the courts, and the criticism still stands.

thats like saying if you went to a mechanic and they charged you (the PAYING CUSTOMER) for shady/horrible/no work done on your vehicle you shouldnt complain at all............

quite a bit different than you being an employee of the mechanic and bitched about his shops policies or whatever when he is paying you.

You can technically get a ticket for each window that's illegally tinted. So as above, if you're being an ass to the officer (or if he's just an ass to begin with), he can give you two. (or three tickets if you're dumb enough to tint the windshield of your BMW... but if you own a BMW you can't be stupid right?)
