Update on my post and strategy from below, things are in the green. TFSA is +72% since June 2019.
Since my last post, I regret selling a partial position in my S&P ETF back in Apr 2020. It's +45% since Apr 2020.
I also dumped EXCO and Brookfield Asset Management in Dec 2020 for a loss.
Thankfully, Capstone mining and the diversification of Canadian banks have done well, and they all pay a decent dividend. I plan to keep holding all the banks, Canadian tire, S&P ETF, etc. However, MMED, Zscaler, Etsy, Poet are hail-marries that I may dump at some point. Most of these new picks are losers, since when I bought em, Feb 2021.

Just sharing a 4 year strategy I'm experimenting with. In Apr 2020, I wanted to invest in about 10 canadian companies. I looked at their current price vs their 52 week high, and their dividend. On the left half.
On the right, I projected the 4 year gain, if a) they returned to 50% of their 52 week high, and b) if they returned to 100% of their 52 week high, after 4 years, including the dividend payments.

From this, I bough these 10 companies in Apr 2020. 4 months later, they're up ~17%, so far. Mixed in below are some earlier companies I bought in June 2019, based on a current vs projected price based on some 'Simply Wallstreet' suggestions, which suggests undervalued companies.
I didn't look into these companies deeply at all, so I can definitely attribute some of the so-far success of this example to luck. I've also made some poor investing decisions in 2020, panicking and selling before the recovery.

Tip #1: Don't check your long term investments daily, or even weekly.
Tip #2: Don't stress about 4-6 month market cycles.

Anyone that wants Visa. This is your pull back for a buy in.
Might go lower but might not.
This was a good call, any current pull back for buy-in opportunities you see? Nintendo?

Worley has dropped to about $9.20 after a decline of over 15% this month. How much lower can that go before people start buying it back? Will DAR come in and pick up another billion?
They are a shit company but they keep existing and seemingly growing.

Updated my portfolio values this morning. It made almost $100K since Jan 2020. I have invested no new money in years.

It is now past the point of contributions meaning anything.

What really irks me though is the $16K LIRA I got way back in 2000. I screwed around with that money, it's worth $5.5K now.

If all I did was invest it in the same shit the rest of my money was back in 2000, it'd be worth about $75K.

Profit taking in energy today is massive compared to where some of my positions were at open.

Hard to comprehend that the last time gas was at current levels was 2008.

NNRG could be one to look at. Managed by Eric Nutall at Ninepoint.

Define "good" for your needs. Active, passive, Canada only, etc.
I think most retail investors overthink things, so I reccomend boring index stuff. HUC, HUN, HOG etc.
