What are peoples thoughts on DFN.TO?
I see it has been paying $0.10 per share per month dividend. At a share price of $8.50 that is 14% yearly return!

Is my math wrong or is this a solid investment opportunity?

As this ETF is all Canadian companies it would also depend on your outlook of Canadian economy.
Ive Had DFN on and off. I have a chunk of it now in fact. The Dividend is great, but it only pays if both DFN.to and the DFN.PR.A are above a certain dollar amount added together. I'm trying to find the info on the Quadravest (The fund manager) website but I don't see it anywhere obvious. I also was in and out of their FTN fund which also has a solid return, and again it was the same deal. I got out of FTN when there was talk of issues within the financial sector, as FTN is puled from a basket of Financial institution stocks. I'm not adding more into DFN, and will probably pull out of it in a few months to have some cash for when a few things drop a bit more.

Short version: DFN is cool, and pays dividends consistently, but there is the possibility that it won't pay on some months.

Edit: Found it in their fund documents

No regular monthly dividends will be paid on the Class A Shares in any month as long as any dividends on the Preferred Shares are then in arrears or so long as the net asset value per Unit is equal to or less than $15.00. Additionally, it is currently intended that no special year-end dividends will be paid if after payment of such a dividend the net asset value per Unit would be less than $25.00.

Just curious if anyone is holding SOX (STUART OLSON INC), if so, what are your thoughts? I'm holding some in my RRSP's back in the day I got in around $5, had been paying a steady dividend until it gapped down late September and suspended dividends.

    Good time to average down?

Rode the rollercoaster that is NIO and got out above $4 today. Thoughts on a re-entry point?

I've heard picking the bottom is a sound strategy.

Looks like it's at peak now.

Now if you've got cash. VGRO was also at it's peak in January.... and December.... and November. You can't time the market, so just buy some. If it falls, you have the opportunity to average down. If it continues to go up, it means you haven't missed the boat.

Trying to time the market with an diversified EFT is absolutely insane.

Along with Ben Felix's channel and the Rational Reminder podcast, I'd highly recommend these CiovaccoCapital vids.

They're long, but full of excellent charts and logical reminders. I've watched this one twice: https://youtu.be/jiUMq5emXNI

If you’ve been watching the markets during this crisis, you will have seen considerable swings happening. The ever-growing updates from around the world are having a profound impact on the daily value of the market. While COVID-19 itself is unprecedented, global events impacting the market are nothing new. While markets historically pull back in times of disruption and crisis, they have usually recovered those losses and more in the years that followed, and have provided positive returns in the long term.
The following chart shows how the U.S. stock market has rebounded from significant pull backs or crises and its performance during those bear and subsequent bull market periods.
As you can see, the index has not only recovered from past losses but has gone on to generate exceptionally positive returns. While history is not a predictor of what might happen in this situation, hopefully it does provide some helpful context for you about the recovery from prior events.
Investing during volatile markets can be tough. That’s why we will be reaching out with more information to help you navigate this uncertainty.
Our entire Questrade team is here to support you during this time and wishes you and your families the very best in health.
    Sincerely,
    Team Questrade

Yup. Great reminder that bull markets last way longer than bear markets.

Hold steady, buy more, and ride the wave back up.

What do you guys think of the EBIZ etf? I bought a smallish position back in mid-April around $17.20USD. Has been mostly up steady but Shopify is a little "up there" and has me worried. Rest of it seems ok. Just wondering because I might buy a much larger position in it down the road. Looking at it's previous history, it really didn't do anything over 2019 and now it's pretty much at it's all time high.

If you want broad exposure to that type of asset, buy in early and often. Trying to time it is kind of silly. If you like to time things, but individual stocks.

Shopify is less than 7% of this index. Really, if you are the type to worry about since companies in an index, maybe these broad ETF's aren't for you?
