Cops hit moviegoer with Taser

CALGARY - There was a shocking twist to an afternoon showing of Watchmen yesterday afternoon after police used a Taser to subdue an unruly moviegoer.

Cops were called to the Scotiabank Theatre Chinook about 5 p.m. after a man -- believed to be in his mid-20s -- started causing a scene.

An employee, who asked not to be named, said the man looked "really drunk" and started yelling during the movie, prompting the manager to ask him to leave.

"He was drunk out of his mind," he said of the man.

"He was screaming."

Instead of leaving, the man pulled a four-inch knife on the manager and threatened him with it. Security was called, followed by police, who were also threatened with the knife.

Officers used a Taser to subdue the man, who was later taken to hospital.

"He was very, very drunk, so we're just waiting until he's sober," said Calgary police Insp. Keith Pollock.

On March 14, 2009 at about 5 PM police were called to the
Scotiabank Theatre at Chinook Centre in response to a report
of a drunk male weilding a knife inside the theatre. A male
patron who was extremely intoxicated produced a knife after
theatre management and mall security approached him to ask
him to leave. When police arrived, they found the male
apparently passed out seated alone in a theatre. When a
police officer approached him the male suddenly woke and
produced the knife. The officer immediately subdued him by
deplying a Taser. The male was transported to the hospital
where he was examined then released.

Stephen Albert Missiaen 27 years of Calgary has been charged
with one count of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public
peace.

K, sorry, that is an extreemly weak attempt to support the over-use of tasers.

This case is a prime example of how or why a taser should be deployed.

I went to see 'the wrestler' at chinook a few weeks ago, and 3 drunk/high people came into the theatre and made a substantial amount of noise throughout the first half of the movie.

People complained, obviously, and like 10 security guards came in to kick them out. Everyone in in the theatre ended up with a free movie pass.

Glad I didn't get shanked. Our drunks were obnoxious but not violent.

The less time in general public facilities the better...way too many retards in this city.
