Amp problem

hi...today we installed an amp in my friends car...the sub was giving off a little bass and music....but there was lots of distortion...we wouldnt be able to turn it past volume 2 without hearing distortion..at high volumes no more bass or music would come out...just distortion..anyone know what was wrong?

Try checking all the wiring to see if there connected to the right terminals.

Did you check your gains???

Another thing that could affect the sound (although it may not be the case here) is how close the rca and power cables are. A common mistake some people do is to run them next to each other down the same side of the car, when in actuality, they should be run down separate sides of the car. You didn't put them together, did you?

i think they might have touched for only a couple of inches...would that make that much distortion though?

Honestly, I don't think so, but it's all I can think of. If you're going to run them that closely, they should be running perpindicular where it's going to cross (and try to make it so it only cross once).

ya well im sure that wasnt the cause...do u think the amp is blown somewhere?

Are all the components brand new? maybe try taking to box out and hooking it up to another car. Depending on the result, at least you have narrowed it down to either the deck or the amp/speakers. Maybe one of the wires got loose inside the box

no dude..the subs are new..not in the box yet...so the wires were hooked up right...the amp is used though so i think it might be blown
