with all the gang problems in a large city, this is nothing compared to innocent by standers getting in between the cross fire. I see the CPS is stepping up a notch. These criminals who steals cars often are involved in other sorts of criminal activity. Who knows, he maybe ramming his 3000lb weapon into your family if he gets away this time.

it wasnt a bait car, they have ignition shutoff.

that's bullshit though, if he was boxed in and unarmed, i cant see how killing him is necessary. sounds more like a newbie cop knee-jerk reaction.

if he's a car thief, i dont have much sympathy...but no way in hell that any cop should be judge, jury, and execution.

something is weird about that story though.

then again, maybe he had a swingline too. the last thing we need around here is more people with staples in their eyes.

Not if was just sitting there, but he probably rammed or tried to ram one of the cop cars to get away, which means he doesn't care about everybody else's safety anymore, he just wants to get away. Even if hes boxed in, doesn't mean he'll sit quietly and wait arrest. Some people will do anything to get away from the police in a situation like that, especially if they are intoxicated or high. If the cops didn't shoot him, do you want the cops chasing him through the city instead? Possibly hitting other bystanders? At the end of the day, they will use lethal force if they think that the public or themselves are in any danger and it wasn't like the thief was armed with a stapler... he has a 3000 pound car which is lethal.

Officer had 20 yrs experience. So not a newb. A few more of these and maybe thieves will think again before taking something that doesn't belong to them. People that don't steal cars and try to ram cops with them usually don't get killed at 3:15 am on a week night.

IF you steal a car, get boxed in by cops, and try to run one over - or even threaten to run one over with the stolen car, you're going to get shot.

Simple as that.
