    Default Looking for recommended contractors???

I'm back to helping the family business, and we bought a small 2 storey building in the NW that we are in the process of renovating. The last general contractor was relieved of duties recently as things weren't getting done, and the work that was done was substandard.

I'm hoping that with Calgarys construction business slowing down some that there will be some decent guys with enough extra time on their hands to come by. Basically, I'm looking for recommendations on the following:

    general contractor
    plumbing
    electrical
    hvac
    stucco

I'm not opposed to single contractors and no general contractor if there is only one crew working at a time and they have their own safety policies, etc.

If you know some quality guys that aren't out to scam, please pass on some info or make recommendations here. Also, please feel free to message or post guys or places that one might want to avoid.

be your own contractor and have the individuals pull their own permits.

don't pay more than 50% up front and pay the rest when satisfied.

    ask for references!

unless you know the person really well stay away from cash deals.(lot's of scammers out there)

and ask who's doing the work?himself or somebody else and is he subletting the job.
get everything in writing and make sure he has an insurance policy to cover f'up's and injuries.

Sounds good, I'm leaning towards just bringing in one guy at a time myself.

Regardless of the direction I go, I'm at the point where I want a third party inspector to come in a few times throughout the process. Can anybody recommend a good company for commercial property inspections?
