    Default "Atlas Shrugged" WSJ Article

"For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises -- that in most cases they themselves created -- by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism."
Very good article I thought. Touches on some points very relevant to today's problems.

Atlas Shrugged should be required reading for high school students. And, of course, politicians.

"Problem/Reaction/Solution" is how the elite are bringing in the new world order one step at a time. It is a cold and calculated method to by which they are able to slowly take away our freedoms and enact systemic methods of control that pale in comparison to anything Orwell could have thought of. The war on terror, climate change and the current economic crisis are three such cases of which I can see slowing leading to a one world governmental mechanism.

Orwell was a socialist. Don't bring him into this anti-regulatory crap

Greatest novel of all time. Everyone should give this a read, saw it was recently number 32 on the current best sellers list. Its an EPIC but worth the time, especially in today's environment.

I have it under my bed in my book bin. It's a book that I have re-read many times over the years.

There is a website the Ayn Rand Center for Individual rights. Always an interesting website.

^My copy is nearby always as well. Some times I just flip it open between books and read a few sections.

    FBI, CIA, ATF, HLS.

Gee, how many of these outfits do we really need. Just think of all the inefficiencies.

    Ayn Rand? Seriously? Epic fail.

Look out Oprah, seems Rush Limbaugh has a book club now!

Another usesless Googe drive-by comment with no meaning or insight whatsoever. Don't take it personally.

I love how the public's attention span is getting shorter and shorter, to where apparently people are forgetting things that are currently happening.

Couldn't people at least wait until the actual economic crash that came about due to poorly regulated markets stops before talking about how there needs to be less regulation?

^ I didn't mean that as "we shouldn't talk about it", I meant it as "godamn people are fucking stupid to try to glorify the free market as a savior when it's literally plunging us into chaos"

and on the general topic of Atlas Shrugged:

I think there needs to be a balance between the free market and regulators. There is the SEC, but that agency is obviously asleep.

It's a fine line, and I'm not sure where it should be drawn, but too many regulations and red tape can stifle businesses and economic growth that people and politicians so desperately need right now.

I expect nothing more from people that get emotional watching Bush speak, and take cues from Rush

I didn't get the article from a bush/rush fan, I found on it another trading and investing forum I'm on. This has nothing to do with these two, and I'm not concerned if either of them promoted this book.

It's very relevant to today's events and thought other people would be able to see the significance in some of the points this book makes

Well, he made up the Rush Limbaugh reference in an attempt at humor, and I think the Bush thing was directed at me. But he's not a fellow that will actually engage you in a real argument, he's just a troll with a penchant for emoticons.
