LF: Private Truck with huge shovel to clear private residental street

My residential street in the NW is just packed with snow from all the wind, I doubt the city will be coming to do anything about it so I was hoping someone knew a private company to come and clear my street.

I believe city bylaws prohibit this - I recall seeing on the news a guy who did snow removal for a living was not permitted to clear his own street. There is a liability factor when it comes to damaging public property, other people's cars, etc.

However if you do find someone who will do it legally let us know!

Edit: Just noticed you said Private Residential street. Do you live in a condo/townohouse complex?

Call 311, they will add it to the list..takes a week or so but the grater will come.

My boss actually did this recently and bylaw enforcement gave him a $130 fine. It's idiotic. If you morons aren't going to clear the streets and someone else wants to, LET THEM.

City is good for nothing, just like a union. Say someone comes out in the middle of the night, plows the street and then takes off. How do they find him?

You'd be surprised how many pseudo-bylaw officers are quick to the draw with a pad of paper, and a cell phone.Their good for nothing observations are killing us all frig.

put those bylaw people in snow plow trucks not in service due to shifts and or at night when they arent being used!

Lets put people in snowplows despite them having no training in it... no thanks, i dont know about you guys, but i'd rather deal with the snow than some bylaw officer damaging my car because he has no idea what he's doing.

I'm not sure what type of insurance you'd need to plow city streets, but if a company doesn't have that kind of coverage, i'd rather them not plow the streets.

everyone wants their streets cleared and yet no one wants to pay for it.... the fact is it costs money to clear all the streets.... and remember calgary is very large in land coverage with several hundred KMS of roadway. i work for the city and even i get frustrated by their clearing tactics but it does work..

I believe there is a $250k fine if you are caught plowing a public road. No joke. The insurance carried by the city owned plow trucks is into the 8 figures. I was told its in the high teens per truck, due to the liability they carry.
You should investigate this much more in detail before doing it, or having it done by anybody other then the city of Calgary.

Well since City of Calgary workers are all apart of a Union, yeah I would say so.

Sadly I may work for them this summer... At least Union's get you sweet wages!

You'll find most trucks that have plows will already be clearing parking lots etc that they have contractual obligations for. By the time they have time to do the street (if they were even willing), then it probably would have been packed down or gone.

Maybe if they'd planned the layout of the city a little better there wouldn't be so many roads to plow.
