Default Project Torque Steer, 1995 Civic

I bought this 1995 Honda Civic Si for $270 (not a typo). Cleaned it up, put a remote starter/alarm/door lock actuators and power trunk popper. Threw some ripped up leather seats in it, Armour All’d everything, fiberglassed up the rust patches and 4 weekends later the car looks like this:

The speedometer stopped working properly at 265000kms. Nothing leaks at all and surprisingly everything else works. Plans for the car are to put heated seats in, do the mirror with outside temperature gauge (I probably miss this the most from my Impreza) and throw a turbo kit into it hence justifying the title.

We found a theft recovery civic for $525 with a turbo in it already and an engine compatible with all of my stuff. The pictures of the turbo civic:

It was surprisingly easy to get everything straightened out under the column.

Fitting description for someone trying to boost a 300000km+ car

A small video of us trying to get it running. The starter finally gave out after about an hour of on/off cranking. The positive terminal is on the right.

The next day we got it running with a whole lot of smoke coming out of the back. The video is too large to load to photobucket but if someone can host a 152mb video then I can post the video of it running.

The turbo kit install was the WORST thing I have ever seen in my entire life. If a shop did this they should be ashamed of themselves. Wires were bare and hanging close to the down pipe, we found cut and open wires just everywhere and the positive terminal was about 1 mm away from the intercooler piping. Just a mess.

The turbo is a TD05H. I bought a bigger FMIC for $100 and the SAFC II already came with the car. Injectors are also on the engine so the only thing left to get would be some sort of Honda ECU program.

If anyone has the ECU pinouts for the North American 95 civic then please post them or send me a link. With a quick search the only thing I found was the JDM pinouts; the reason for this is I want to wire in the SAFC.

To summarize things up I’m going to be into the entire car for a total of about $1550. This is already including the $430 write-off inspection and the $525 turbo kit. I sold the write-off theft recovery civic for $200.

By now everyone and their moms have a turbo civic so it will be nothing special but this proves that you can have a somewhat fun car for very little money.

I just searched a bit and yes, it is for a P28 (1995 Civic Si). Aside from bolting everything on and wiring in the SAFC II the only other thing I think I need is the ECU program; I don't care for a tune unless it is cheaper than an ECU program.

Finally got around to working on the civic again this weekend. So far no complaints about the car. It only loses about 500ml of oil every 5 months and doesn't leak anything.

I bought some eBay (very cheap) lights to give the car a different look. The headlights and corner lights were $54, the taillights were $38 and the fog lights were $18. Can't go wrong with prices like those. The marker fender lights I stole from my brother's crashed 2004 Acura TL A-Spec.

Here is the bumper off and the lights already on (fitment is horrible). Next I started with the fog lights.

You have to hack apart some of the bumper grills. It's not too bad you just have to take you time with the Dremel.

After much time passes you can finally bolt on the light. Fitment was surprisingly good. The wiring quality was terrible and the "OEM" switch is already broken lol.

Also bought an OEM front lip straight from Honda. With shipping from eBay it would have been the same price.

Bought a used intercooler for a $100. I had to paint it as you can see by the pictures.

    First coat done

    Second coat done

Started fitment of the intercooler. There is a convenient spot to mount it right under the re-bar without too much interference near the bottom of the bumper.

I tried to get the front of the intercooler as flush as possible to the front face of the re-bar.

    Test fit

After that I painted the beam so it doesn't start rusting prematurely.

EBay tail lights in the background. Fitment was worse than the headlights.

That's all I did for the intercooler so far. Will work more on it soon.

I also put in the side marker lights. I'm not happy to say this but, I completely destroyed both fenders in the process. They're bowed in and there are small dents all around the lights. It really doesn't look good up close.

Plenty of room to work with though

    Hacked apart hole

    Marker light in

    Turn signal light on

Other side went just as bad

Lol, I hardly think 100ml a month is going to do anything to the engine. The whole reason I want to boost the SOHC engine is that engines are worth nothing. I already have a spare one from the hatch and there's another one out of a 1999 Civic sedan for $90 (ninety dollars). Having said that I'm expecting it to blow by the end of August just in time for the beginning of University.

EFHatch, the lip looks great and took about 5 minutes to install. Very hard to notice on a black car though.

Nissan_Fanboy, I know the factory location is lower. I got those side markers from a TL and the backing of them was much bigger. I measured up the factory location and there wouldn't be enough room to put them where you pictured. So up top they went.

Twin_Cam_turbo, this car was in rough shape to begin with so no need to spent a lot of money on quality parts. It really shows up close as nothing really quite lines up. It's going to be the winter beater though; so I couldn't care less. There are much more fun cars to drive in the summer time.

Did some more work over these past two weekends. Fitted more of the turbo kit on along with preventative maintenance items like the timing belt, tensioner and water pump.

Here is what the timing belt looked like. It is an original Honda part. I would have never changed the belt if my water pump didn’t start leaking. In these pictures I did not “break” the seam; this is what the belt was like and it was like this over every nub. Also note that the belt appeared to be good from the outside so if someone just looks at their belt and deems it okay think again.

While I was doing an oil change a little while ago I noticed my tie rod boot was ripped. That started a whole chain of events that led me to replacing almost everything up front. My brother had a 99 civic parts car that had 77000kms on it. So I towed that car over to the shop and robbed anything and everything I could from it including hubs, rotors, brakes, tie rods and axles. And while I had everything apart I installed the Tien coils my brother had from a crashed Integra. I used the GSR struts in the back and SIR struts in the front. The car sits a little bit too low for my liking at the moment. I’ll see how it is actually driving it.

Pulling the stuff off the 99 civic (someone actually stole the two front doors of the thing lol).

My old stuff (300000kms+ on it). Trying to break those ball joints sucked.
