RAM Upgrade for Gateway 700GR

I need to upgrade the ram on my comp.

Says that I can only upgrade from 1 to 2 gb of ram.

At crucial.com I did a scan and they say I have 1gb of ram from two 512 mb chips, says that I have 2 empty slots and max capacity of 4 gigs. But...

Only thing I've upgraded since I bought it 4 or 5 or 6 years ago (no idea, but long time ago) was the video card, 2 years ago to a nvidia geforce 7600gt.
