which auto body shop to go for a minor MINOR scratch

i accidently bumped into a red chev sedan REALLY REALLY gently while driving yesterday

on the guy's rear bumper, there is no scratch OR dent at all

the guy called his friend, who is a mechanic in NE, and told me that it usually costs about a g to 'fix' his bumper, but he'll be nice and says i can just pay $500

noway im paying this because theres absolutely no damage on the bumper
but since i dont wanna get into any trouble with the law or call insurance agency to deal with such minor incident, i am willing to pay for his 'damage' but im lookin for an autobody shop that will not charge me with this ridiculous price

does anybody have recommendation?

What kind of car are we talking here? A grand is about right if the bumper is broken or the paint is cracked and spidered. Probably a 1 - 2 hours to Remove and install the bumper, 2.5 - 3.5 to refinish the bumper and another 1.5 - 3 to prep it for paint. If there is spider cracks expect the bumper to need replacing and closer to a grand.

and far as i know, this 'friend' of his isnt even a qualified mechanic

and like i said, NOTHING is broken, not EVEN a dent.
there is a TINY scratch that can be easily painted
honestly, about l_____l wide, and === thin

all it needs is a little paint

Tell him to take it to a reputable shop and have them quote it as you are uncomfortable since you have been scammed in similar situations in the past. He'll either do it, or he'll disappear.
