I have a PS3. It appears that headsets that allow both voice and game sounds are few and far between.
Can I just use a headset that allows me to split the mic/speaker signals at the usb dongle? Plug the "mic" jack into the usb dongle, then into the computer, then plug the "speaker" jack into my stereo receiver?
Would I be able to hear other people's mics properly through the headset?
I'm thinking something like this:

By my figuring, this should give me sound through the RCA and mic through the USB right?

EDIT: Or can I set the game audio to output through the usb port? I'm not at home right now, and I'd like to pick something up before I get there, so if anyone can help out, I'd appreciate it.

I've got the X4 (5.1 surround sound), and honestly, with MW2, you don't need it. On the original MW, and with WaW I could definitely hear the enemy coming from each specific direction, but on MW2, all you hear is constant shuffling, either from your own team, or the enemy, and you can't pin point what direction they're coming from most of the time.

There both gimmicks, their headsets use a single driver in each headphone. They are "simulated surround" and technically only a 2 channel system.

Turtle Beach HPX(now discontinued) were actually surround, combined with ASTRO mix amp, it is the best combo in gaming headsets.

If anyone is wondering about the headset situation for PS3: It does work.
I bought a Logitech gaming headset. Has two 3.5mm jacks (one for the mic, one for the headphones) that plug into a USB dongle.
Plug your "Mic" jack into the dongle, and plug that into your PS3. Plug the "headphone" jack directly into your stereo receiver. If you're not using a stereo receiver, you'll have to get adapters to plug it into the RCA cables from your PS3.
Presuming you're running sound through an HDMI cable, you'll have to redirect the audio.
In "Sound Settings", change the audio output device from HDMI to RCA.

And Boom, you're done. Your mic will work like any other USB mic, and in game audio will now come through your headset. FWIW, this is the same was the Turtle Beach headsets work. The only real advantage is that you have a much larger selection of headphones that you can use instead of only the 1 model Turtle Beach sells.

Not wireless. Headset was $60.
You could definitely do it cheaper if you ordered a headset, but I didn't want to wait, and selection in Red Deer is fairly limited, so i was stuck with whatever Futureshop had in stock.

I honestly don't know what all the bitching is about to be honest. Unless I'm really lucky or a select few are very unlucky, the shit doesn't happen very often at all.

TDM: Express is much better than reg TDM tho in almost every way.
