Gawd. Was growing a beard for a while, had it going pretty hefty, then realized I miss my daily shaving routine. Just shaved right now.
I picked up a Merkur 34c last time I was in town (Kent of Inglewood, also picked up some hair supplies from them, great guys) and had ordered in Astra platinum blades. Using Razorock Italian. Razorock aftershave balm to finish.
So smooth, so fresh.
Curious, there were other merkur models with angle adjustment or something of that sort, how useful is that?? (I think model name was Futur)
I have the futur. I don't find the angle adjustment very useful...I played with it a tiny bit in the beginning, found what worked, and it's sat that way for a good two years. IMO, makes little difference.Originally posted by nismodrifter

Anyone have any interest in Trader Joe's Honey Mango shaving cream? I bought two tubes and found I didn't really care for it very much as I prefer soaps. One tube is completely brand new while I only used enough for a couple shaves in the second, so it's almost full. And yes, it smells as nice as it sounds haha
If anyone's got anything they wanna trade, hit me up. I'm particularly fond of Proraso products.
Edit: Gone
Bump...For anyone looking at a double edge razor, amazon.ca has a sale for some of the Merkur products.
Gentlemen,
Which after shave balm /cream/lotion would you suggest?
When I do wet shaving, I go super aggressive, and when I'm done my skin is left super sensitive and tender. Was looking to find something that would help the irritated skin. Atm using dove for men and it's OK but not that great.
I use a lavender aftershave, but sounds like you need to prep your skin first. Hot water and pre-shave oil, then a nice soap with lather. Kent of Inglewood recommended a specific soap that lathers up well with our tap water! I used other ones and they're crap compared to this stuff. I'll find out tonight. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Wondering what you guys recommend for after shave balms/creams??

I think Flipstah was trying to say that it's better to avoid the irritation in the first place with proper prep. If you're using a cheap shaving cream or soap, then chances are it's not softening/lubricating as well as it could, hence the irritation. You could also try shaving after a hot shower or using a hot towel to soften the hair before applying cream so that you don't have to go "super aggressive".This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. For an aftershave balm, try Lab Series Razor Burn Relief Ultra.

Feather Razor
BIC or Astra Blades
Jack Black Shaving cream/aftershave
Thank you for your replies, gents!
So in my case, I shave after a hot shower. At this time I don't use a pre-shave lotion/oil or anything. I'm using Taylor of old bond st shaving cream (from the bowl), and feather blades on a merkur futur.
I will definitely have to look into the pre-shave regiment to see if I can avoid the irritation in the first place.
What pre-shave oil /lotion /cream would you recommend to use? Are there any available locally?
Instead of after a hot shower, try shaving with cold water. I found that helped a lot with irritation. https://sharpologist.com/2012/03/col...shaving-2.htmlThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yeah I find shaving with cold water incredibly refreshing. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Picked up a cheapo omega boar bristle brush to see if it would be stiffer and scrubbier than my nice badger brush. Sometimes if I skip a few days I feel like the badge bristles don't lift the hairs properly.

Anyone want some derby blades? 10 5-packs, as pictured. Free to a good home. I just prefer feather.

Thank god this thread was recently bumped. Just read this post about cold water shaving and I tried it out earlier this week. I don't think I will ever go back to a hot shave. I have found cold to give a much closer shave, and very little to no irritation. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So I've seen a bunch of ads for these types of razors pop up on my instagram lately, and I've been thinking of trying it out. Any recommendations for a starter kit? Or just pick one cause they're all the same? Happy to hear any suggestions you guys might have for what to buy.
(and sorry, no I didn't read all 31 pages of this thread, and don't plan on it)
