IMO the best local stout by far is the "Black Pilsner" from brew brothers/amsterdam rhino.
they have it on tap at the hop in brew (which, coincidentally, is one of the best local pubs for pizza and a dope microbrews poured correctly).
red stripe!!!! its good stuff but only comes in a shitty small bottle
Pimp. I'll be going there.Originally posted by nonlinear

Naw, espresso stout isn't a brand. It's dark stout with actual espresso in it. My favourite coffee and favourite beer in one drink haha.

Ultracrepidarian
Midnight sun by Yukon Brewing Company is great, widely available, pretty strong at 6.8% alcohol and cheapish ($12-14). More importantly it is MUCH better than Big Rock Espresso Stout which manages to taste nothing like coffee or stout, quite an achievement.Originally posted by Thomas Gabriel

And don't drink light beer. The companies that make them have nothing but contempt for the purchaser, take a look at the advertising. Try vodka straight from the freezer or a nice whisk(e)y. Or have a nice strong belgian style beer like Maudite or Trois Pistoles, at 9% alcohol there's no way your going to drink enough to get love handles.
anyone tasted The Lingnan Pi Jiu beer, loved it...too bad can only be bought in Edmonton.
pretty tasty since it has a slight hint of Ginsen in it
Blue Moon and their Honey Moon Summer Ale are AWESOME!
I can never find fresh steinlager in Canada. Every time I've bought it here it's always skunky like it's been on the shelf for years.
Used to love CD when I was in NZ

Big Rock has a seasonal called Espresso Stout. The brewmaster describes it as a stout that hints at coffee, as opposed to a cold bubbly cup of coffee. I've been drinking Mill St. Brewery Coffee Porter lately. It's more coffee than Big Rock's Espresso Stout, but good also.Originally posted by Thomas Gabriel

i drink way too much beer, and have been drinking dark, heavy microbrews religiously since about 1997 haha. well now that i'm getting older i started to get some little love handles growing, and a belly. i'm not overweight by any means (i'm about 6'1" and about 175?), but i figure this is from all the beer i'm drinking. so i tried to switch to light beer, and unfortunately all light beer tastes like the same watery crap. i've been buying sleeman's light, and also the co-op light beer (half the price and tastes just like sleeman's), but it kinda sucks. does anyone know if there are any low-calorie lagers or ales or at least something with a taste to it?
I am carrying like 25lbs beer fat
