The study suffers seriously from response bias. Everybody responding feels like they have something to prove. You can speculate all day about whether people are guessing high or low, and its probably a little bit of both, but in the end the survey is totally meaningless for drawing any conclusions from.

23 sounds abnormally high to me as well, but this is coming from the guy with 1 partner ever and who has bee with his wife for over 10 years (since I was 14).

A lot of friends of mine who played top-level hockey are around 20+. A lot of road games, playing abroad, tons of partying, it adds up -- especially when you're young and feel invincible.

I'm surprised that's an average though, I woulda figured there'd be a lot of <8 to bring the average down to a more sensible 13 ish.

I am surprised that outside of a few emakers, most of the responses are fairly decent.

I have been in 1 relationship when I was 17, that lasted until I was 22 or so, now I am 25 and married....that brings my total to 2....., I am not religious and don't go out to bars ect, maybe the thought of banging an STD infested whore never appealed to me..I don't know. Is it wrong to find someone you care about and just be with that 1 person? I love my wife and she more then satisfies me, not ashamed to admit it. I was in a relationship from 14-20, so count that one, now I am 21 and has only been 2 after.

I'd say this survey showcases either one of the following, or both;

1) Male ego.

BTW: Does 23 seem a little low to anyone else? I mean assuming that in a males 18-25 years hes had sex with one partner every three months (give or take) and by 25 hes either married with two flings (mistresses) or married twice with one fling, and maybe assuming a couple of early encounters before the age of 18... Or not married at all - in which case 33 is probably too low.

I was thinking more along the lines of 33 partners not 23. Only a sociopath nowadays would be under 5 or so, or maybe someone with extreme religious convictions, or a militant american.
