    Default Here we go again....

Gas prices quietly jumped by ten cents over the last few days...there must be a popular long weekend approaching.

Okotoks jumped to $0.919 saturday morning, while South Calgary was still at $0.79X. I see Calgary is now up to the high $0.80s.

I used to complain about the "conspiracy", but eventually realized its just business economics. Hopefully it doesn't escalute anywhere close to what it did last year.

Typical for summer but does 91 cent gas prices correlate to 60/barrel oil? I know they don't directly affect one another but I think back to when oil was at $60 and gas was 85 cents.

Crude oil and gasoline prices do not correlate directly.

However if the price of crude increases over the span of a couple weeks it is a pretty safe bet that gasoline prices will follow to a certain degree.

Having pondered this throughout the day, why do we get mad at the O&G Companies? Both the Federal and the Provincial gov't have their hands in the mix taking the lion's share of profits. We should be telling the gov't to back off.

As long as that means oil is over $100 and gas is over $10 I'd be happy!

A better indicator of gas retail gas prices would be to watch the wholesale index, much closer correlation there than oil prices. But that's just being captain obvious to those in industry.

It is a bit skeezy that prices jump the day after oil goes up some.. I don't remember it doing that in the past. They used to raise it a month or 2 later and say 'oh oil went up back in xyz'... The only time it would go up over night would be if there was a war or hurricane.

I see those stickers at the gas pumps have done their job well.

Taxes are a proportional cost, so they are not responsible for the fluctuating prices, nor do they touch the "profits"

Such a minor component of the worldwide demand.

As for gas prices, remember that for Calgarians in particular, the high price on the pump let you afford the high sticker price on your car .

Suck it up, grit your teeth and remember that the $ you spent on gas is the $ you get on your paycheck.

whats with everyones assumption that 100% of calgarians work for oil companies and in some form will benefit when oil prices are high?

Most of the money flying around Calgary is because of oil, whether it be directy, or indirectly. The only reason people are getting paid $16/hour at Timmy Ho's in Calgary is because of oil.
