Default Alright, which one of you won?

$50 million dollars? Speak up! I want to know who to beg for a R8, lol. You could at least buy a round for Beyond.

Chances are one Edmontonian is nearly $50 million richer today.

According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, a single locally purchased ticket won a massive $49,851,871 Lotto 6/49 prize on Wednesday night.

The winner and exact location of the purchase were not released.

To claim the prize, the winning ticket holder must give the Western Canada Lottery Corporation the right to publish both their name and a recent photograph of themselves.

However, the rules do not state that the prize must be claimed right away. The winner has one year from the date of the draw to claim the prize or else forfeit the winnings.
I kid, but really, with the whole 6* of separation thing, I'm willing to bet someone on here knows the winner.

Do lotto winnings get taxed in Canada?

It was either Canada or the US... can't remember which.

I really hope it's a company or a group of workers who won that money. I'd hate to see just one person winning it all due to my envious nature.

Nope. Tax free in Canada. I believe if a Canadian wins in the US, you get the taxes back as well.

Literally shit on my bosses desk. Maybe even self induce puke on his chair, and piss on his futon after eating 2 bunches of asparagus.

Then I'd cancel all my phone #'s, and get a hotel for a couple of weeks under a friends name. Then I'd go get my money.

After that, visit family, and share some wealth, then some world travelling with my wife.

That is very funny. I have the asparagus whenever you win.

But totally right, you would pretty much have to go into hiding.

Put it all into my low interest TD Savings Account (which I don't think I've ever used... it gives like 0.5% interest or something) for half a day... just to fuck with my account manager at TD

Well if you take a lump sum you end up getting just over $30 million, if you take the payments it's about $163,333 a month for 25 years.

I'd probably take the payments, so there'd be no INSANE spending. I'd live about the same I do now except I'd have much cooler stuff and I'd do a lot of traveling.

Edit: First thing I'd do is change my phone number.

Well for starters if I won no one would know because only a handful of people know my real name and they probably wouldn't even be paying attention to who won etc.

Somethings would change but a lot would remain the same. I would just have a lot of money obviously. Oh the freedom and things I can do!

    Travel around the world.
Go to every major sporting event.
Take up and try out all the different sports.
Go to Vegas and enter into the high limit poker games.
Go back to school for fun.

    etc.

    I'll continue dreaming.

Why would a lump sum payment in Canada be $30M? There is no tax at source on lottery winnings in Canada.

I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities....

You get the entire amount in Canada from lottery winnings. If you won 49 mil , you get 49 mil. There is no lump sum, and it is tax free.

The lottery board takes the Time Value of Money into consideration. If you take the monthly payments, then you'll get the full advertised amount. But if you take a lump sum up front, it will be less.
