What's going to happen to the buildings?
Updated: March 10, 2022
My list of random For Sale (some free) stuff
I would bet that our long time friend Gary Sartorio is safe at Shaganappi (crossing everything for you Gary and the whole gang)
It is unfortunate that the public has no say (directly) because I am sure we are going to loose some good old school business ethics to this restructuring.
Prediction: R.I.P. Airdrie Pontiac
Just sit empty I guess. Like Jack Carter moved and their building is just sitting there. I hate to see any dealers closing. Shitty deal.Originally posted by TomcoPDR

War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.
That sucks
There are 13 GM dealerships around Calgary, you need to cut 6 to reach 40%. Say all Pontiac and Saturn/Saab are gone..... that will get rid of:
Northland Pontiac (Part of Shag anyway, no big loss)
Stampede Pontiac
Saturn/Saab of NE
Shaw GMC Pontiac Hummer
Shaganappi South
Airdire Motors
Hyatt Saturn Saab
Keith Pontiac
Shaw is going to be around with commercial customers.
Not hard to turn Shag south as Chevy dealership.
The rest are probably gone.
Unfortunate, but this is long overdue. The dealership network is bloated. Did we really need 13 GM dealerships in Calgary?
I have doubts about keith getting cut, as they do sell alot of gmc/chevy's here too to a large majority of southern foothills communities. and they did get corporate etc approval when moving their dealership to a brand new built building on the outskirts of okotoks this year.
So this means that GM service is likely to suffer with the fewer dealers getting more volume which usually equals poorer service.
They closed the one in Three Hills.
I am betting it is mostly Rural small dealers that sell 30 cars / year that are getting closed.

There are about 90 GM dealerships in Alberta, including 15 in and around Calgary.
You forgot GSL how could you forget it with all the lights downtown!
Agreed. I have a feeling that Calgary will see less than the 40% cut (aside from the obvious Pontiac/Hummer/Saturn/Saab dealerships).Originally posted by benyl

Calgary and Edmonton have some of the best performing GM dealerships in Canada.
If they have to close, I'd love to see CMP shut down. Never once had a good experience there, with servicing. (We used to take our work trucks/vans there)
They once refused to work on our van, because "it was dirty". It wasn't even that dirty, it didn't have mud caked on it or anything, it just had some oil residue on some parts of the body, from our jet engines.
I wonder what our owners are going to do... they own 17 GM dealerships across BC, AB, and SASK.

CMP is owned by Shaw, don't think that's going anywhere.Originally posted by Tik-Tok

They are now saying dealer owners will hide the fact they are closing for at least 6-9 months because they need to operate til end of 2010. It will be a closely guarded secret.
I thought it was CMP that owns Shaw.Originally posted by Xtrema

Shaw bought CMP years ago,my Mom worked @ CMP in the 80's and Shaw did not own it then.
It's the rural dealers that will get hit hard, Calgary may not see any cuts at all. As for Jack Carters old building that has been bought to accomodate the expansion of Chinook.
Looking for a new VW? How about a used vehicle? We are Central Albertas #1 source for pre-owned vehicles

I lived in smalltown Alberta when I was kid - I hope the small town dealers don't get hit too hard. There's nothing fun about having to drive 30-45 minutes to the next town to get service on your vehicle or if your vehicle is broken down having to pay to have your vehicle towed to the next town that has a dealership.
It's not like being in the city where you can simply go to another dealership close by.
I won't be surprised if someone will see this opportunity to expand their dealer network into rural areas and scoop up the rural GM dealerships.
