Default Advice on BMW 2009 335xi

    Hey guys:
I've been reading a lot of the threads here and love the environment!
I've decided to buy my first BMW, it's gonna be a 335xi ( live in Calgary, lots of SNOW )

I've got the following Quote and looking for your advice: ( Price all in CAD)

    PL33- 335xi sedan ------ $51500
    ZKJ - M Sport Package --$ 3500
    ZKK - 6 Speed AT/ M Steptrc --$ 1700
    488 Lumbar Support ---- $ 400
    6FL - USB Audio $ 425

    Other Dealer Charges:
Winter Mats and Trunk Tray Kit --- $ 280
    Freight and PDI - 3 Series --------$ 2395
    Insurance Reg --------$ 395
    Tire/Air Tax --------------------------$ 116
Full Fascial Hood Guard --------$ 895

Total Sale Price ----------$ 63006 (CAD)
    GST ----------$ 3150

    Sub Total -----------$ 66156.3

I didn't go with the Exectutive and Navigation Package since I don't think it's much of useful.

    I have following conerns/questions:
    1) The interior color now don't have Coral Red, and I chose the "ZSP" special Orders(400) and wantted to order Coral Red Dakota Leather as ZSP ( cost 1000), but the dealer replied me today said BMW won't do any color other than the given ones, well, then what is the speicla order for?

    2) I know when I come to the payment I can try to bargin with the sales/dealer, how much would you think I can bargin off, and on what parts? Any experiences?

    3) The lease rate for May is 2.9% now, I'm not sure about June, anyone have any good guess on June's rate, will 1.9% be possible? If so I'll just wait one more week then.

    4) The BMW Service in town is pretty lame. Should I go through the Insurance Plans with the dealer, ask in details about if anything goes wrong, and blah blah, then ask them to write down any commitment they say?

Thanks for anyone reads such a long post, but it's my first car to buy and it's a Bimmer, wanna make the right choice.

    Best Wishes.

I say you should get the sound package and navagation. The sound package sounds better then the base sound system. The navigation is only 2000 dollers now might as well get for resale purposes and i'm pretty sure it has better features for 09.

I know someone who bought an in stock 135i. Price was negotiable - more than 10% off retail.

That freight and pdi charge is insane,
Also the insurance registration can be waived on all the other cars I've ever bought so I am guessing you can tell them to take it off at BMW as well?

If I were you I would check carcostcanada and pull an invoice price on the car. That way you'll have some idea of what the markup is.

I would wait for 2010. It is just around the corner. Possible ZHP and DCT coming.

how much room for negotiating do you have when shopping for premium cars i.e. bmw, benz, etc? i am sort of under the impression that if you don't want to pay for what they're asking for, someone else will. of course the current economic situation will help consumers but generally speaking, how much would you be able to save by negotiating?

Skip the winter mats. They are junk. Same for the Hood guard. You can get it done a lot cheaper elsewhere (tinting illusions) and they will 3M the headlights for free too.

Almost 70k for a 3series? YIKES! i didn't think they were that expensive

Have you thought about buying an 05-07 //M (either 3 or 5). I think a low mileaged one would be a much better buy for that much money.

All depends on time of year, stock etc. Last december/january you could get up to 10K off on any 3 series in stock and close to 18K off on M3s AND 1% financing

Good luck with what you decide. However, I agree with the 2010 comment.

You think they will release a bunch of stuff for 2010 instead of waiting for FMC for 2011?

    What is FMC?

LCI for the sedan was 2009 model. The LCI for the coupe should be 2010. The LCI for the coupe will likely co-inside with the M-performance edition (bump in power). Also, I believe that DCT has been confirmed for 2010 in the US anyway. It is likely that we will get it too as the trend as of late has been to decontent US vehicles and load up Canadian vehicles to justify the MSRP difference.

^ FMC = Full Model Change

Nevermind, I guess BMW never run a 5-6 year model cycles.

They are more like 7 to 8.

7-8 AND the FMC is always preceded by a last ditch effort to sell previous models with new features and changes.

Exactly. They just brought out the new front/rear (mostly tail lights and head lights) for the e90 sedan. There will be a bit of a refresh for the coupe.

Never find the sedan good looking, refresh or not.

Coupe looks good but it's getting a bit boring into it's 5th year.

    5th year?

The coupe came out in 2007. 2009 is the 3rd year. Hence the 4th year model refresh in 2010.

I'd have bought the 535 xi if it wouldn't have been for the overall horrible interior available in those cars

if one wants a status car, I guess your option would be decent, but to me, an European buyer who still appreciated BMW, tThere are better valued options out there

Have you looked at what Mercedes and Lexus are offering? $67,000 is tons for a 3 series sedan!
