    Default The Budget Red Rocket

Awhile ago, I was searching for what would be my learn how to be mechanically competent project cause my truck is still under warranty. On a weekly basis I went onto kijiji and searched "project" and discovered this one and after some research on what I could do with it, I became more interested. I checked it out on an afternoon and towed it back to my house.

Now I finished the first phase so here is how the car sits right now

The old lil turbo 4 that wanted to go fast, but couldn't and seized up

Lets play a game of name that engine, for the nissan boys it's an easy one

For those of you that didn't get it......CA18DET goodness

The parts that I have sitting around are:
    Universal FMIC
    2.5'' Downpipe
    Rb20 Maf
    Manual boost Controller
Random Interior stuff cause it isn't the prettiest right now

Now there's a wager between my bro and I, at the end of the summer we are gonna hit up a Secret street and throw down $100.
Here's what I'm going up against

I might have the wrong idea here, but I think you ( ^^ ) have the wrong idea here.

When driving around and I see what I think is a 200sx it ends up being an ae86 Celica, and vice versa. Mistaking them is very easy, which is what I think Primer Drift did.

This is a 86 200sx (s12) that had a ca18et so this is a pretty much plug and play swap on my end since I'm going to get autodream to wire it up and another person to make the exhaust and IC piping.

This is my first ever extensive kind of mechanical work (disconnecting everything, pulling the engine), so I'm keeping it as simple as I can. Before it has all been oil changes and installing CAI's.

iirc craigcd had and SR s12 ( i'm pretty sure cause i bought an SR oilpan off him like 4 years ago), much more tail happy than an S13 so i've heard, GL!

try and find a t28 before that race!

OP send me a PM if you want to see some pics.

    Good luck with build

Alas it is true, small pics and a quick glance I mistook it for a AE86.. compounding my error is that the S12 was one of my favorite vehicles that I've owned.

    Good luck with the build!

    Ok quick update,
Most importantly, the engine is in!!!
pretty tight, but manageable (pics will probably make their way on here in a day or two)
I picked up a Momo steering wheel and that got put in, to my surprise Speedtech had a hub in stock. I was expecting at least a couple weeks to get one, however I quickly went on my merry way with the hub in hand.
thanks for wishing me luck to all, I might just need it

If that's a 7MGTE Supra with the usual mods, you might have a problem. Find a T28 turbo (GTiR would be best) and slap it on, manual boost controller at 12 psi and the usual FMIC and exaust and you'll have him.

Oh! BTW does that S12 got a limited slip diff? If not pick up a used one and some soft tires and you'll have all the tools you need to bitch slap that 7M!

If its a 1JZ supra, then you really got a problem!

Looks like a 7M-GTE judging by the badge on the back...but you never know with these crazy cars these days...

My bro's car is a 7m and I tell him all the time that he is a ricer because of his Turbo-A badges. Only 500 of those cars were made and he doesn't even have any of the unique parts of a turbo-a on there.
Mods wise there's an intake, elbow, and downpipe. He kinda worries about BHG so the boost hasn't been turned up. If anything there will be another build thread later on in the year popping up from us doing a complete rebuild and turning that car into a full on sleeper.

In other news, I decided on going to U of A this september and with all the other cars in the garage, the 200sx from here out is for sale. I'm going to keep on working on it and get it running, however if there is somebody interested as it is I'll let it go. Primer Drift.....I sense some unresolved attachment issues with s12's

(Admins if this is a prob, let me know and I'll start a marketplace thread)

    Update

So the car is back in the garage, took a nice trip down to Autodream and got all wired up there. I gotta give props to Nguyen for doing a wicked clean job and going the extra mile with hooking up gas lines, screwing in my power steering reservior, etc... I showed up in the morning and they started up the car right in front of me which was a great sigh of relief.

I've got a quick question for the mechanics out there. When I first got the car back I wanted to marvel that the actually does run in front of my Dad, however I forgot to hook up the MAF so flooded the engine real nicely. Now after airing it out, I put the spark plugs back in and started it up and then died ~15 secs later. I pulled the plugs again and they were covered in gas. Now my first inclination is that the injectors are leaking so I'll check them later tonight , is there anything else I should be looking at?

Last question is with my Crank angle sensor, I pulled it off to check if the timing belt was installed properly. I put it back on however it doesn't go back how it was when i pulled it off (kinda off kilter). Is this something I should worry about with regards to timing?

Ok so the injectors check out and they are all good.
So i started to do some searching on the net and found this guy with the same problem on the S12 forum.
His fix was getting the intercooler piping all done

As many of you can see I'm quite the mechanical novice so if someone could explain the theory behind it being necessary to idle. I didn't think it would be a problem since the MAF is hooked up and measuring the air while the intake mani is seeing an equivalent amount of air.

Exhaust the muffle is Flo-Pro, have no idea what it sounds like however I trust the guys that it will be alright

Spark, injectors, Battery, ECU, fuel pump are all a go independently.

Worked on the car somemore tonight and found out a connector to my AAC valve was off, following a quick connection I jumped into the car and it fired right up, ~10 secs later it died from flooding.

ngk # 4919's you need some.

and i believe the turbo s12 in 87 came with the r200, wich i believe it was a early vlsd.
It is frustratingly reliable, truly the cockroach of automobiles.

All the wiring was done by Autodream since I am easily bamboozled by it.
Now I talked to Nguyen today and he talked about clipping an orange wire to stop the engine dumping gas. So I found one that is on the steering column, does it make sense to clip that one? I sent a pic to them of it to be absolutely sure.
