    current plan is

    Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive at Narita Airport, and spend the remaining day in Tokyo.
Day 2-4: Spend two full days in Tokyo and one day in nearby Kamakura. Kamakura is an easy day trip from Tokyo.
Day 5: From Tokyo, make a day trip to Nikko.
Day 6: In the morning, travel from Tokyo to Takayama (4.5 hours) and spend the afternoon and evening exploring Takayama.
Day 7: Leave Takayama in the afternoon for Kyoto (3.5 hours) and spend the evening exploring Kyoto.
Day 8-11: Spend two full days in Kyoto and one day each in nearby Nara and Osaka. Nara and Osaka are easy day trips from Kyoto.
Day 12: In the early morning, travel from Kyoto to Hiroshima (2 hours) and visit the Peace Park. In the afternoon, continue to Miyajima and overnight there.
Day 13: Get up early and spend a few more hours on Miyajima. Leave the island around eleven for Himeji (2 hours). Spend the afternoon exploring Himeji Castle. Return to Tokyo in the evening (3-4 hours).
Day 14: Depart Japan from Narita Airport.

Buy a tourist rail pass from your travel agent before you go. It's the way to get around Japan and you can't buy it once you're there. A one-week pass was under $300 last summer; exchange was more in our favour at that time though.

I just got back from Tokyo (amazing city !!), you dont need a visa.
They will thoroughly check you out at the border though. When I got off the plane there was a foreigner line set up. Guys in masks asked me health related questions and then took my body temperature before allowing me into the airport.

I have about $20cad in Japanese Yen if you were interested in making a trade for Canadian money ?

Just got back from japan, and already want to go back. All I can say is 3 days is not enough for tokyo! Go to osaka as well, and base your day trips to kyoto, kobe ect. from there. 1 day in hiroshima is sufficient. We stayed @ kaosan tokyo ninja, sakura hostel ikebekuro in tokyo, J-hoppers in osaka, and k's house hiroshima all really great hostels with easy access to the JR lines.

If you really want to go back, it's stinking cheap in june.

NWA is apparently the cheapest - http://www.nwa.com

But even with air canada, I found dates for a round trip for less than $750 (taxes in).

I just went last fall, but I'm really tempted... hmmm.

Your schedule way too crammed to enjoy much, you will need much more in Tokyo and you don't need a day in nara, it is super small and like 4-5 hours is enough to see everything so head back to Kyoto instead of spending the night there. Your schedule looks good to get a bunch of japan in, it just will be crazy. I would also spend more time in Osaka, yes it is super close to Kobe and Kyoto (going there today actually from kobe) but unlike Nara it is huge and definately 1 day is not enough. Also you may want to concider visiting Kobe, awesome city. Kyoto is cool and all but unless you are into temples (you will probably tired of them rather quick) there isn't much to do there, the coolest part is the Kyoto station haha ( it's true, escalators to the roof, skywalk, roof gardens ect). Do your best this time but definatelly come back again as there are a ton ofplaces that you should still visit. I am on my third trip in 3 years and I love it. Last year I went with my friends and we went to Okinawa island and then travelled all the way up to Tokyo over 3 weeks period, went everywhere and did everything. Okinawa is fantastic, then you got to experiance the hot springs in hakone, Nagasaki is a good trip, and as well as the country side, which is a lot different then the main cities. I still got 2.5 weeks left in japan and will be spending half of my time out in the country, pretty amazin experience. My wifes parents live in rural Kobe and it is completely different. I want to come back again to explore Hokkaido some day. In total for my trips here I have spend about 8 weeks already and there is still much to see.

How much do you think a trip to Japan would cost for lets say,
    2 or three weeks,
Including sight seeing, touring, and just relaxing.

    I'm really interested in going.

Very true. On my layover in Tokyo - a guy sitting a couple seats infront of me got quaranteened. I think he coughed while the health inspectors were on the plane (dressed in radioactive suits).

I'm going to be in Japan in 4 weeks as my last week for my Asia tour. I am not looking forward to re-entering. Seems like lots of beyonders are heading to Japan at this time.

when i arrived in tokyo exactly 1 week ago the health people came onboard...but no hazard suites or anything, just standard face masks that alot here wear and they just walked front to back quickly and that was it, 2 minutes tops. Could be perhaps that our plane was late by over an hour due to problems in vancouver and people needed to make connections, but it was smooth.
