Default Help with choosing out a new car:

I have been trying to decide what direction to go for my next car with no luck. I have kept the boundaries pretty open and considered everything from sports cars to SUVS, but ultimately I think it's time to buy a more luxury oriented car.

    In no particular order:

    1. 2002 BMW 745l: $23,000 - 140,000km

    2. 2002 Lexus LS430: $23,900 - 112,000km

    3.2002 S55 "AMG": $26,900 - 114,000km

Right now, I'm leaning towards the BMW's. With respect to price these are about the top of my budget given I have just purchased a new house.

Of the three (or any other like suggestions), which would you choose?

If the BMW has been maintained correctly I would go with that.

Lexus>BMW>Merc. I'd expect the lexus to have a higher resale aswell.

My dad's got 2 LS' and one of them has over 400 000 on the clock with no major repairs on either of them *knock on wood*. So reliability is a huge plus for the Lexus. His newer one which is one bodystyle older than the one you posted has almost 200 000 on it and its been pretty damn reliable too. And its comfortable as hell. I don't know if its a better choice than the other two, but I'd give a to the Lexus.

I would pick the Lexus as well. It might not have the same status as the germans but maintenance and repair should be much cheaper

Within reason, I don't mind the potential repair bills. It can't be much worse then the money I have put into modifying my cars....

Its interesting to see how many people liked the Lexus, being the plain jane car of the group. Are those opinions strictly based on reliability or do you actually prefer the car?

make sure you check the back ground thru local registry and carfax.... and it'd be great if seller can provide as much records as they could, and extended warranty is a must.

Well after buying my Aristo (GS300) I was pretty impressed by everything the car has to offer. Then going for a ride in a canadian GS300 with over 300,000km on the clock, and its running just as nice (with a much harder driver!) I'm pretty sold on Lexus. Not to mention seeing my family members BMW's hit the shops as often as they do. Lexus imo

    Lexus > BMW > Mercedes
Lexus looks a little outdated, but its super reliable, really comfortable and drives great, and in the end, you won't be paying huge dollars 24/7

Most people here prefer Japanese cars to Domestics or Euros
And in this case I am guessing reliability is why people are voting for the Lexus.

How long are you planning to keep it? I'd go for the Lexus if it's many years but if not I'd go with the Merc.
