Default Okay heres the deal. Nissan and Honda

    Okay Hello Everyone.

Soooo... I own a 1994 Civic Si as you can see,
but i am a Nissan Fanboy at heart.
I wanna build up my civic to have maybe 200hp but have no clue what to do.
I wanna go turbo, but don't have alot to spend.
I wanna keep it under 5000.
I was thinking about getting forged pistons / rods, and maybe a small turbo, like a t28 or something along those lines.
Anyone ever built up a D16z6 here with tips?

Either do that, or save up my money for a SR20, GT28RS, Exhaust Manifold, Intake Manifold, Fmic, Injectors, Maf, Exhaust, Intake, Tune and everything along those lines and then find a clean 240sx to drop it into.

    Please don't flame.
    Thanks
    -Chase

There are better platforms to dump money into than a Civic IMHO.

Hell, why not even take the money you were going to dump into a car modifying it and see if you can get something that would likely match or outperform it stock?

Do a cost vs. benefit analysis.

you won't need internals to make 200hp turbo.

    stock internals are just fine.

But i was thinking about in time increasing the power.
You think just do what is needed for the power?
I've heard people talk about how turbocharging a civic is a waste of time,
But i really wanna start working on something whether it be a SR20 or a B16 or whatever

Well, I know for example, that to modify a 300ZX you spend $100 on an intake, $250-500 on an ECU and $800 to $1200 on an exhaust and you've got yourself close to 370 to 400 crank HP... how much would it cost to turbo a civic and get only 200hp? Plus with a better platform you've already got a type of car that's designed to handle that type of power suspension and drive train wise...

Would you be planning to do supporting mods on suspension, braking, transmission (not sure how strong the stock Civic one is), etc?

Yea, but you gotta remember power to weight 200 horse in lets say a civic hatch would still be fast thats a lotta horse in a small car even tho 200 doesnt sound like much it would be in a light civic

    True, plus 300zx's are amazing,
    I'm either looking at a Z32 or a S13,
    Two of my favorite cars.

If you really are a Nissan fanboy, sell the Civic and get a Nissan. Even if it means spending some of the motor money on top of what you get for the Civic. Then take some time and build a motor for the Nissan.
    OR
For just over your motor build budget you could go oldschool and get this : http://forums.beyond.ca/st/264494/fs-1971-datsun-240z/
    cool, quick, and Nissan

it's funny because the 300zx is such a heavy pig it would only be slightly faster at 400hp than a little 94 civic would be with 200.

I agree that it is a better plateform for power but the civic will be much easier to work on which will make the experience more fun.

The civic properly tuned will also probably be more reliable than even a stock 300zx.

Now a 240sx on the other hand, there is no denying that with 5k to spend on the engine you will have a faster car and something RWD is better dynamically than a FWD car.

Here's the question though if you're a Nissan fanboy why did you buy a civic?

I'm in the process of turbocharging my civic right now, slowly collecting parts.

I would honestly try to just do things once. If you're thinking about a t28 and 200 hp, but think you'll want more.

    My opinion, get a t3/t4 50 trim .48 A/R (57 trim and .63 A/R if you don't mind a bit more lag and want 400+hp.

Either will easily get the d16z6 making 300 hp. A cast manifold has been shown to make 400+ horsepower so you don't need a $500-1000 topmount or ram-horn manifold.

A really small turbo in a FWD application is kind of a bad idea, the boost builds very fast and the powerband ramps up too sharp, causing tirespin. A larger turbo could easily make more power and yet at the same time give better traction characteristics as the time it takes it to spool gives the wheels a chance to catch up to the build in power/boost.

I'm kinda rambling, and would be happy to try and answer any more specific questions over PM. OR just ask them here, that way if I'm wrong i can be corrected.

Parents are douche bags and wanted something really reliable for first car.
And i only really had like 3000, so it fit right in.
All the 240sx's i saw had Mass amounts of rust, or the seller's were asking way to much.
    240sx = OVERPRICED!!!!!

Touche. It looks to be about 1000lbs difference

But will 200 extra HP more than compensate for those 1000 lbs? I'd think so... What do they say? 20 lbs gained/lost is like losing/gaining one HP? 1000/20 = 50 HP by that logic (not saying it's correct)...

Well if you look at the power to weight ratio, the 300zx even at stock has the civic beat.
    2500 / 200 = 12.5
    3500 / 300 = 11.6
    Closer to 1 the better
    example
    2000 / 600 = 3.33

HONESTLY the best thing to do, is to keep the honda, don't mod it. Drive it daily and keep it reliable and then build another car on the side, that way you still have the Honda to drive while the Nissan is broken and you have to make parts runs.
