does anyone know where i can find performance stats for the turbo mr2 and the non turbo mr2?
does anyone know where i can find performance stats for the turbo mr2 and the non turbo mr2?
basically, slow car with good handling vs fast car with good handling.
dont even bother with the na mr2 cuz its a weakassed 2.2 economy engine that doesnt do a good job pulling 2700lbs around.
look for a turbo one...then worry about getting a 93 vs a 91....huge differences in wheels, suspension, brakes, and minor exterior changes.
MR2 Turbo way better, the 3S-GTE platform puts out 200hp 200lbs of trq, mid engine, wicked car
the NA is still good looking IMO,
nowhere close to as powerful, i think 160 hp 140 trq, or 140 hp not sure....either way the turbo is waaaaaaay better,
i think redlyne_mr2 has a turbo one, and has had for a whle, he'd b the authority on em maybe?
if i can sell my acura for what im looking for this is the car im looking into getting, as soon as i flipped through some on cardomain i knew i had to have one.
Hehe thanks for the good word Sandman
Like all models of Toyotas the mr2 came in many variations. The na engine is the 5sfe found in several generations of celicas 140hp and around 140ft/lbstq. The are very popular in autocross because of their light weight due to less standard options and the responsive na engine.
The turbo is the one to buy if you want to make some nice power and build a nice track car. The 3sgte engine is IMO one of the best 4cylinder turbo engines ever built. It can handle high amounts of boost and because of the mid engine rear wheel drive platform there is minimal drivetrain loss. The 3sgte also comes in 3 different generations. the first gen 3sgte found in usdm, euro and the odd jdm puts down 200hp and 200ftlbstwq as mentioned. The second gen uses a ceramic turbo and lays down 225hp in stock form and the third gen 3sgte puts down 245hp, it has an even better turbo capable of around 400hp and a map sensor instead of afm for easier tuning. Stock the mr2 turbos at our altitude run mid 14s to low 15s depending on vehicle condition. Ther drag coefficient is extremely low and they pull almost 1g on the skidpad. the 93s as jeff said have better brakes bringing the 100km/hr-0 braking distance in only 110ft. the 93s and up also have larger rims, and a nice short shifter.I could go on for days about this car , let me know what you need to know specifically

amazing machines, i hate the old one, but the new ones are so nice, by new i mean SW20s, if i had a choice on any car apart from my twin turbo, id do w/ one of those in a heartbeat
ge a turbo for sure
i defeintely agree w/ redylune_mr2 that they are some of the best turbo 4 bangers around, the 3rd gen 3S-gte is 245 hp! thas some competition for the SR right there eh, lol, good cars, ill shutup now and stop betraying my nissanness
if u dont get the turbo, not worht it IMO
and then jus buy an S13, n swap in an RB26DETT , or even an RB25DET, wont cost as much, 250hp, and spend liek a grand on it and ull b running high 12s i thnk....
redlyne MR2 what are some things i should look out for when im looking at a 93 turbo?
are all SW20s OBD1???
