The suspended with pay thing is part of union rules I believe.

I don't know if it's part of the collective agreement, or more firmly entrenched in the Police Act. It's a balancing act as the officer is not convicted of a crime, but at the same time cannot function is a position of public trust while being accused. Most people do not lose their job over an accusation and would have legal recourse if the were fired simply because they were charged with a crime.Originally posted by rage2

I know internal reviews do happen. Earlier this year an EPS cop was suspended with pay after being charged with impaired driving causing death ( I believe, going off memory here) and after an internal review 2 weeks later he was suspended without pay.

I kept expecting to see "Pics or it didn't happen" appear in this thread.
It sucks to be the kid if it is true (depending on how old they were). It sucks to be the officer if it isn't true.
