    Post Cover for Plate

    Hi guys,
I am new to your forum here. I ride a 99 Honda Valkyrie I/S
I was pulled over on Hwy 2 south by Leduc. Reason was the cover I had on my Plate. From Behind the bike plate was a clear as daylight. At 45deg you can read only 3 digits.

I looked up the charge, 71(1) License Plate Not Clearly Visable.
It says the plate must be securely attached and be Legible and clearly visable at all times.

It does not say it has to be visable from all angles. Ticket is worth $115. Not sure If I should fight this one or not.

    What you think??

um... all times would probably include all angles (within reason, you cant see the numbers from the back of the plate)

    kinda answered your own question..

...I've got 71(1) as failure to notify owner of property damaged in an accident...

Either way if you want to argue interpretation with a judge then have at it, you'll lose.

i doubt they'll throw it out entirely, it's quite obvious that the only function of that plate cover is to circumvent traffic cameras.

hehe they sell those plate covers but most store will tell you that they are illegal to use but aren't illegal to sell. Go figure.

there is a lot of stuff like that... ever wonder why nobody gets busted for selling bongs and pipes? they see them as "tobacco" pipes, which are legal... same goes with this thing, they probably have a tiny sticker on it somewhere (similar to the blue headlights) that says "for offroad use only"

If it is against the law fine but I would like to know how they interpert the law. It seems to very vauge and maybe this is done on purpose. The LEO also said he Could have given me a ticket for De-faceing a document. $350. He is calling the plate a Doc. The whole thing is set up so they got you no matter what.

Seems pretty straightforward to me. If you put something on your plate, that makes it hard to see, you are obstructing it.

Dude, you knew when you put that on there that wou shouldn't be, and if you didn't know that it was a bad idea.

regardless of what the law says, you know you shouldn't do it, you got caught, pay the consequences, and fix it.

Haha. That about says it all.

Allow me to get you un-lost with the before and after pics part:
    1. Take pictures of your plate as it is now.
    2. Take the stupid cover off
    3. Take pics that clearly indicate the plate is always visible (yes, from all angles)
    4. Tell the judge your sorry, and you have fixed the problem, maybe he will have some sympathy.

IMO, its just $115, pay it and take your cover off your plate so you don't get any more tickets. Court dates suck.
