I'd go with the GT2 if I could ever afford one of those cars, I think it's a little more or a racier kind of car. I suppose what I'm trying to say is it's a little less refined than the Turbo (at least to my knowledge), a car for the gar enthusiast whod doesn't need/want any of the "extras"

The GT2 is the kind of car you buy if you already have a turbo as a daily driver and want the GT2 for the track. It has stepped up HP, weighs less, has RWD only and is MUCH harder to drive. Keep in mind, that's american money, so the 20 grand gap becomes a little wider up here. I'd stick with the regular turbo, but if I was a high roller, I'd get both

Yeah, a GT2 will set you well on your way into the 2's and the 911, just shy...

I think the 911 turbo coupe is a better deal. It has more features as traction control, automatic transmission, and it also has 4WD, and 4 seats. I think it would be the funner car.

Dude, i don't think you understand what it says. Manual / Automatic means that you can choose if you want the car to be auto or manual. (Automatic transmission is optional for 911 turbo) And rage's porsche doesn't have auto and manual. So i don't know what you're talking about. And if you're talking about his SLK, he has automatic transmission with powershift. And cars can have automatic transmission and SMG (paddleshift) also. And also, 5 HP and torque isn't much of a difference. And I doubt it'll be for sale for that much cheaper.

    Don't lie. You're half a month younger than me, so you're not 13. You're 11.

Some people might think the GT2 might be much faster on the 1/4 mile, but they're about the same. The 911 will get a better start because of 4wd and traction control. It'll also gain more traction on the track. It also has automatic transmission so it'll shift faster. And it costs much less.

The GT2 would whop a 911 by about 3-4 tenths under identical conditions... 3.6 for the GT2, 3.9 for the TT

    2002 Factory Production Cars:
    1. Porsche GT2 3.6 seconds
    2. Lamborghini Murcielago 3.8 seconds
    3. Ferrari 360 Modena 3.9 seconds (tie)
    3. Saleen S7 3.9 seconds (tie)
    5. Porsche Turbo 3.94 seconds
    6. Dodge Viper ACR 4.0 seconds (tie)
    6. Ferrari 575 Maranello 4.0 seconds (tie)
    9. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.07 seconds
    10. Aston Martin V12 Vanquish 4.4 seconds (tie)
    10. Lotus Esprit 4.4 seconds (tie)

If you get that kind of car you don't get an automatic

(exception of the SMG tranny on the M3)

Well, SMG would be my top choice, but i'd rather have automatic than manual. Lazy people like me don't like to do anything manually.

I still think that the TT will be faster on the track though. Do you have any comparisons of both cars on a track?

That's a freakin' oxymoron... if you are into the pure sporty aspect of it, the AUTOMATIC is not a consideration! Automatics are for the old folks who have $$$$ and not into the sports driving. (sorry Rage2 and Kenny... I'm really hoping you guys get the new 6-speed AMGs)

I can just hear people now comparing the sequential shifts of F1 and CART cars to Automatic, but they are very confused.
Semi-auto/Tiptronic/SMG is not the same as the Sequential of the upper echelon cars. They shift differently, and don't FORCE a shift depending on the RPM you are sitting at.
NOW YOU SPEAK UP! ha ha just jokes
I was just doing some reading and the SMG II makes shifts in 80 millisec. Modena F1 is 290 and the average F1 car is 20. SMG II doesnt auto shift if you hit the rev limit either, like you say.

But the SMG II and the gearboxes in those SLK32 AMG's are very different youre right.

Heres the article if anyone wants to take a look. Very well explained and informative.

    Cool

If I was RICH enough......like winning the Super 7 or 6/49
I would just get the 911 Turbo (Automatic) for my daily driver...
    AND
get the slower (than the GT2) but so much better looking in my opinion .... Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder (6-sp) for my weekend ride.
