    Default Haskayne 3rd & 4th year Accounting

I'm trying to make up a schedule for this year and next year and wanted to see what people thought about it:

    FALL 09
    MKTG 317
    HROD 317
    OPMA 317
    ACCT 341
    GOPH 375

    WINTER 10
    MGIS 317
    FNCE 317
    MGST 391
    ACCT 343
    GLGY 307

    FALL 10
    ACCT 361
    ACCT 445
    MGST 493/495
    sr. Commerce option
    non-commerce option

    WINTER 11
    ACCT 4XX
    ACCT 4XX
    sr. commerce non-concentration option
    SGMA 591
    non-commerce option

I might do some courses in the spring/summer instead of doing 5 every semester.

Should i switch anything around to make it more balanced? I don't want the course load to be too easy in one semester and then too hard in the next. I know that I shouldnt be taking marketing and finance in the same semester so I split those up.

Also, for those ACCT 4XX courses, what would you recommend to take, as well as those commerce and commerce non-concentration options?

Lastly, i was thinking about doing co-op after 3rd year, do you need to have completed a set number of courses to get accepted? Thanks.

Are you thinking of getting your CA or CMA? If so, for your ACCT4xx courses, you must take 421 (tax) and 425 (audit).

If you want to get your CMA, you must do ACCT443. Also, you must pick ACCT465 over 445. I wouldn't recommend taking 445 unless you don't mind doing philosophy type stuff. There's a lot of stuff about why we need ethics, what are our assumptions for setting accounting standards, etc. When I took it, we had to relate quantum physics to accounting.

If you want to get your CA, taking ACCT443 will help you get through the CASB program a lot easier. It is not required though. HOWEVER - you do have to take a senior finance course.

I'm not too familiar with the CGA program if that's what you're looking at.

Look through the prerequisites for all the designations you might pursue. I set mine up so I can still choose CA/CMA next year as sometimes that is dependent on where you find a job.

I would also take all of the accounting classes that they offer. Why not? I mean it is your concentration after all.

ACCT 343 is actually required for both the accounting major and to be a CA. My schedule looks nearly identical to yours but I'm looking at taking ANTH 303 instead of GLGY 307.. just because 'rocks for jocks' was enough geology for me. I was also considering taking ACCT 421 (taxation) instead of 343, just for something a little different.
