    Default warranty question

i recently just got into an accident with my moms car. she was out of town so i brought it to a mechanic and got the major repairs done. what i didnt know was that hes not a licensed mechanic and my mom had warranty on her car for a few years. since the cars already been repaired does that mean her warranty is gone?? and what does warranty cover damage you do to the car?

Well we need more details. What did he do? Swap the engine, or replace a tire?

If he replaced the rear control arm and the sub frame, then your warranty would be void on the rear control arm and the subframe.

    So what had happened was.......

Backyard mechanic messed up repairs on subframe/ctrl arm and now you want to see if the manufacturer/dealer will notice that you took it to said backyard guy to see if the manufacturer will make it all better again and cover it under warranty?

Not being an ass, just trying to get all the facts

This would be right, if they noticed.. but chances are, if he took it to a back yard mechanic then the probbaly didnt replace it with OEM parts, so in this case, unless the tech was stupid, they would notice. The rest of the vehicle warranty shouldnt be void though (I work at a dealership and this is what would happen if it came to us)

edit: i should say, if any damage is caused by this mechanic not installing it properly, like if something happened due to his poor install and it effected a completely different part, then that part also wouldnt be covered by your vehicle warranty, in that case, you would have to go back to this other mechanic and work something out with them

oh no, backyard mechanic did a great job on repairs haha.. i was just wondering if the dealer even noticed that the parts have been changed by somebody else would they void my warranty.

Well then you should be okay..... Unless they have to diagnose a warranty issue in the same exact area(s) that were fixed, it shouldn't be a prob. Brand new vehicles get into accidents all the time and 95% of the time they go to body shops for repairs, not the dealers.

Just outta curiosity, what kinda vehicle is this?
