Parked my car in downtown San Francisco for the day and night. Cost me $15 plus tip to the lot guys.

    Here, it's like $25/day+

I wonder how much CPA is costing us for their ticketing system that I hear no other city wants to touch due to cost to implement....

Calgary has a relatively dense downtown core compared to many other cities of comparable size. That puts more pressure on the limited parking. This isn't new.

Most surface parking right downtown is over $25 per day, and undergound parkades charge more than $30.

Im going to Vancouver in August, booked my hotel (downtown), and they are charging $27/night self-park, $30 valet.
Im not looking forward to parking costs.

The differences between the US and CDN cities would be slightly larger as well, since they aren't in the same currency. Interesting no-the-less, I suspected Calgary would be higher, especially against Ottawa, thanks for the info.

That's Hotel prices....acutally parking there is cheap. I haven't been there for a year, but i think last year it was like $2.00/hour or something like that. But still, much cheaper than Calgary in comparison.

Generally, Calgarians have higher disposable incomes than the rest of the country (hard to believe sometimes). Couldn't find it on Google, but I read it in a Macleans at some point I'm sure.

See, it is acceptable to have high parking charges in a place like NY, where public transportation is very good. In NY you dont need a vehicle, it is considered a luxury which you pay for (or park in jersey and drive in only on the weekends). In a place like Calgary, the parking fees are artificially inflated. Your choices are to adjust to a horrible public transit system...or pay unreasonable rates to avoid it. Some lots are charging $5+/30mins. I have actually found some lots cheaper in Manhattan than Calgary. This city is being taken over by money hungry entities.

i got a ticket in the mail yesterday from the 20th. i know i PAID for parking and i was not with staying the time max. anyways, i threw out my reciepts cuz i figured if i was to get a ticket for some stupid reason, it would've been on my windshield. there goes another $40.

also, does anyone have a link or booklet to actual parking laws?!

like when i park at a sign that says M-F 9-6PM 2 hour limit and then underneath it says PAYMENT REQUIRED. that still means after 6 i can park there for like 4 hours for free, right?

and say i park there at 4:20, pay max time (til 6pm) and then just leave the car there til like 10pm. i shouldn't get a ticket. but it just happened!! WTF

also, just a warning, you cannot leave your car parked in a spot with a for sale sign for more than 2 days i believe.

i went to pemberton last summer, left my truck at a buddies street (no permits required, no no parking signs) and i was selling it at the time so i had a FOR SALE sign in the window. i got a call about 18 hours later and a neighbour lady said she saw my truck being towed and would just let me know cause she's nice. turns out i got it impounded and towed and the bill was just shy of $300. fuckers!

I have a solution to the parking problem. I have access and legal rights to an automated parking structure concept that I brought from Europe. In short, the concept is designed to maximize parking stalls in a dense area. The structure is capable of parking 49 cars in an area of 20m by 20m and (roughly) a vertical height of 10m. I am trying to figure out who I would contact from City of Calgary, so I can enlighten them with the concept.

^There is actually something like this (perhaps exactly like this?) proposed for the block enclosed by 7th and 8th avenues, and centre and 1st streets SW. To answer your question though, if you wanted to contact someone, I would guess someone from the Calgary Parking Authority.

Do you have more information on this? How were you informed about the proposal?

I checked their website and phoned in, they said I would have to contact the city...
