The Civic is cheaper to maintain, but will cost more to make it as fast as a stock mr2. If you want performance, pick the MR2.

i know that the MR2 is quick but what costs more in terms of performance parts?

MR2 hands down. Sexy ass cars, mid-engine, turbo and pretty quick out of the box.
Plus civics are a dime a dozen.
did you even look at the pictures? how do you figure that car has any more than 114,000 km? i don't even see a single door ding or major scratch on it at all, and by the looks of it, absolutely no rust. Yeah looks to me like this ones a rollback boys!Originally posted by beyond_ban

not to mention of course, who in the right mind would go to the trouble of rolling back the odometer (or swapping clusters) and only making it read 114,000? that car with a nice detail job could probably look like it had 50,000 to 80,000 km. KM's on a car isnt the end-all be-all anyway, its how its maintained, in the pics the body is good and a compression test will help tell you how hard its been bagged. As long as those factors are good, who the fuck cares?
seriously, 90% of the jdm haters on this forum just look like kids who don't actually know very much about cars and just decide that the world needs to know they don't like jdm's every chance they get.
Oh and btw get the MR2, boost is the way to go
MR2 hands down... unless you're a hc eg fanboy and love the eg to death, in which case that civic would probably be one of the cleanest platforms to work on other then the fact that its RHD. MR2 responds to mods way better though and has more performance potential. With the eg... you're not gonna go a whole lot faster unless you go towards boost plus 6.4k for an EG civic is pretty steep...

You can technically get a ticket for each window that's illegally tinted. So as above, if you're being an ass to the officer (or if he's just an ass to begin with), he can give you two. (or three tickets if you're dumb enough to tint the windshield of your BMW... but if you own a BMW you can't be stupid right?)

Any penny you have to work hard to get, you will consider as "cheapness"...if you hate people from overseas...why you stay in North America!
get the honda, parts super easy to get, just keep feeding it any kind of oil, change the timing belt every 100k and it'll keep on trucking.. MR2 are awesome as well but FI always adds maintenance..

Dont you gotta wait two years before you can get a license...
Or was that one...
But either way you got a while to decide lol.
You can only have so much fun with FWD..... RWD is an endless array of entertainment. In the snow, rain, or dry conditions!

But give her a thumb in the eye just to be safe.
Civic is way more practical, way cheaper to run and maintain and is fine in the winter. The mr2 is good as a second vehicle.
Looking for a new VW? How about a used vehicle? We are Central Albertas #1 source for pre-owned vehicles
I will beat any deal on a new VW for beyonders

I would say stick with a civic for now...learn to drive in calgary 1st especially in winter..then later on upgrade to MR or RWD
If you just got yours learners the MR2 will be way more than you can handle. It's mid engine, rwd, boosted. Rain+deerfoot, snow etc, would most likely cause a disaster with little car handling experience.
mr2's are incredibly fun, bot not the most practical car by any means. If you honestly just got your learners and are going to be driving friends around and stuff like that, the mr2 is definatly not the car to get. sw20's suck in snow. they also get pretty pricey if you get a worse condition one that is not maintained up to par. I would suggest staying close to stock for the mr2 and then modify it when its in your own posession.
I'd take the EG. I'm biased though.
Each has it's pros and cons.
I'd take the EG for practicality, it's cheaper to maintain with parts more available to you locally and readily. Plus it's easier to work with if you're a beginner and if you aren't as mechanically inclined.
