Default What to do in toronto?

never been there before, going to head there for about a week in late september.

any must see besides the niagra falls? or CN tower?

is it worth renting a car or just taking the local transports.

good thing is I will be staying there with friends so that saves a bit of money.

heard the HK cafe there are really good.

Get a GPS, get a car and drive around.

Yeah you might as well go do all the tourist stuff, Niagara Falls, Skydome, CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame.

Since your friends live there they should point you in the right direction for the other little things the locals know about.

If you are just staying around the core you don't really need a car. It is so easy getting around with the subway and street cars. $2.75 fee.

If you are heading out to Niagra it might be worth it. Do some stops at wineries, Niagra-on-the-lake, maybe go over to Buffalo, etc.

As for other things to do:

    Toronto FC game (Sept 12)

Blue Jays (Baltimore and Seattle are in town)

    Hockey Hall of Fame.

    Royal Ontario Museum.

    Casa Loma.

    Walk around the Distillery District.

Go for Greek food on the Danforth.

    Little Italy has awesome restaurants.

Eat at the Dumpling House on Spadina. (amazing dumplings)

Bike around Toronto Island. (get there by ferry, rent a bike)

Check out the night clubs on Richmond St.

Get nachos at Sneaky Dee's. (Bathurst-College)

Burrito Boys (Burrito Banditos now) is my favourite place ever.

Do the Hippo Bus tour. Haha I see that thing go by my place all the time.

Go for a beer at the Bier Market (King-Portland). They have 100s of beers.

    Historic Fort York.

Sit on the patio at the Black Bull. (Queen St).

If you are looking for specific things, I find blogto is a great resource. Using their "best of" section, you can find lists of everything: best patios, best steakhouses, best pubs, best dim sum, best late nite chinese food, etc. www.blogto.com

Get a hotel downtown and you won't even need a car. Theres a lot of stuff to do there.

Check out the CN tower and try to catch a leafs game. Toronto fans are pretty diehard.

Take a walk down yonge street. There is a lot of food and shopping and a pretty wild night life in that area.

Stop at the hockey hall of fame, which is a very cool experience if you havent' gone before. I remember staying for a few hours and feeling rushed, so budget time accordingly.

yup I wouldn't rent a car it's more of a hassle. If you go to the falls do a tour.

There are so many things to do and see, Tower, Museums, science center, theater etc.

definitely do not rent a car if you are down town, transit, taxis or walking is your best bet.

If amusement parks are you thing hit up Wonderland.

If you like Chinese food, get a car, all the good chinese restaurants are out of downtown.

edit: nevermind, if you're staying with friends they'll probably take you around to go eat and other stuff won't they?

IMO the spadina chinatown restaurants are not very good. All the better Chinese restaurants have moved out to Markham/Richmond hill. Spadina is mostly left with chinese-vietnamese now, I believe...there are a lot of Pho places (which are nowhere near as good as Calgary).

One exception is Lai Wah Heen, which has high-end (expensive) but awesome dimsum. Its downtown in the Metropolitan Hotel, but not on Spadina.

Afterwards you can go to scarborough for $1.60 a plate dimsum to average it out.

Do what interesting people do and get on the train for Montreal. I have lived in both cities and you could not give me a ticket to Toronto.

Another good reason to head out to Markham/Richmond Hill instead of Toronto.
