Default is there anything to do in Prince Rupert (or Prince George)?

Might be going to Prince Rupert for a few days this fall (October/November) and just wondering if there are any fun things to do in and around the town. I won't have a car, but can rent one. will be staying in a hotel downtown, what kind of cool stuff is there to do?

might also be staying in Prince George for a couple of nights, is there anything going on there?

    thanks

Man, both of those places get two big thumbs down.

I grew up in Smithers, which is halfway between Prince Rupert & Prince George, and I have been to both often... almost too much.

Prince Rupert is alright if the sun is shining, which isn't very often. In fact, I believe it holds a record for the least amount of sunshine per year or something... it's a gloomy, depressing place for most of the year, and dumpy to boot.

If it's decent weather, stroll down to the Harbour and poke around. I haven't been there in years, so I can't even really remember what's all to do...

Prince George. Yeah. Three large pulp & paper mills within a 5 km radius of each other, so the city smells delightful. It's also a 'rough & tumble' kind of city... mostly loggers/forest workers and the mentality of the locals is as such... lots of natives too.

Avoid the downtown area in PG... it's dead for the most part, and what's still going on down there, you likely don't want to be a part of... lol.

Lots of places to wander up on Cranbrook Hill where the university is... there's also the rail museum over on River Road which is kinda cool... Fort George park too if you're into some history.

Interesting choice for a trip... any particular reason you are venturing up that way?

You could do whale watching or fishing trips from PR. Also there are several hiking trails in the area.
There is a museum at an old salmon cannery that is pretty cool.

PG looked like a dump when i was through there.
