Default Piquet: Flav doesn't know s*** about F1

    http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,1895...457601,00.html

Piquet has come out swinging - and in doing so has probably signed his P45 "Flavio is a business man, but he doesn't understand s*** about F1," Piquet told Autosprint magazine. "He's my manager, but in his role of team boss he doesn't respect me. "He only thinks about money, at how much money he can pocket in everything he's involved, he's a man with no friends. Every day everyone asks me what's going on, so why should I always keep quiet?

time for him to go, he been a complete failure in F1 as far as I am concerned.
    He had his chance.
I think the only reason he got in is because of his father

I had to google what a P45 is.

I think Piquet was put in a tough situation to succeed. Renault has had a poor car that Alonso has made better. If Piquet and Alonso have different driving styles then Alonso's improvements to the car may mean nothing to the set-up that Piquet needs and that leaves Piquet with the crappy Renault they started with.

It also seems Piquets confidence was broken early and then it was all downhill from there.

No doubt Piquet got their because of his name. Motorsports is all about nepotism as well as money and sponsors that a famous name can bring.

    What? In F1? Never....

Alonso brought them 6/10s, but Piquet probably lost them 6/10ths.
Piquet was brutal from the beginning. His fluke podium thanks to a safety car at Hockenheim last year bought him another year in the seat, but he should not be in F1. I gotta admit though, Piquet is right about Flav. But in the end, F1's a business, and making money is pretty much all you really have to know.

What he's saying is true. Flavio knows nothing about F1, even though he's been around for so many years. It's one of the big reasons that MS and the rest of the crew left Benetton back in the day to Ferrari.

There was an interview with a Renault engineer talking about the Alonso championship years. At one of the races, the Ferrari was clearly faster than the Renault, and Flavio observed that the Ferrari were grounding out around a corner and shooting off sparks. He turned to one of the engineers and asked him to make their car shoot sparks like the Ferrari to catch them.

But at the end of the day, he's a good businessman and a good dealmaker. He stole Michael Schumacher from Jordan when he saw his talent at his debut race, and got him to drive for Benetton at the next race. He built an awesome engineering team with the best F1 talents, and he gave a F1 team started by a clothing company 3 championships. Once Renault bought the team, another 4 championships by Flavio.

Much respect for the guy, and I can see why Piquet is pissed. He does kinda suck.

Not only that, Renault won the championship in '05 with very modest spending, less than McLaren, Toyota, Honda, BMW and Ferrari and continue to be one of the lower spending teams, yet continue to produce results.

Actually, it was recently revealed that Renault kinda cooked the books a bit. They're by far the biggest spenders in F1.

That article is confusing as shit. They use Euros, Pounds and USD in two paragraphs comparing the costs of Renault. So they spent £158M ($259M according to today's exchange rate) in 2008, and claim it doesn't include design and construction of their engines, but Formula Money estimates that Renault spent a total of $121M on its team in 2008? So are they saying Renault spent $121M and the remaining $138M came from sponsorship money? What's the real number?

I think the guy had a bunch of numbers and didn't understand them himself. I gathered pretty much what you did out of it but I always thought that these teams operated at or near a profit. A $121M loss is a little off.

I just assumed that teams like FI and Williams wouldn't be doing this if the odds of making money weren't there. I understand that these guys probably don't make a profit at the moment, nor will they until they start scoring big points, but I certainly wouldn't expect them to lose $120M a season.

    Pretty easy to decipher...

2008 expenses (not including engine) - $259.3m (£158m in article)
    2008 income (from sponsors) - $242.9m (£148m in article)
    2008 loss - $16.9m (£10.3m in article)

Formula Money estimates Renault F1 spent/lost $121m in 2008. Subtracting the book loss of $16.9m, that means $104.1m was spent on other stuff. Then, you when you subtract KERS (£12.9m, or $21.2m) and the CFD building (£5.3m or $8.7m), that leaves $74.2m on engine design. Renault got a free pass to modify their engines post engine freeze, so that's where all that money went.

Two things you should consider, Little Piquet:

    1. When Al Bundy asked Bud which was more important, love or money, Bud didn't hesitate in providing the correct response, "Money. I can always rent love."

    2. When movie reviewer Jay Sherman asked action hero Rainier Wolfcastle how he could sleep at night, his response was, "On top of a big pile of money with many beautiful ladies."

Flav don't need your friendship. If you were faster, he'd have mo' money.

Wow, Vettel will be up for a nice raise!!!!! The value of that guy is insane for what he is being paid. Still too much, but alot less than similar competition.
