Cops are dumb too. Merchants are allowed to ask for any form of payment. Not accepting payment doesn't mean you get away free. That's why you see signs at 7-11 saying no bills larger than 20, and they can get away with it. They can refuse payment if it's not on their terms.

Of course, clerks don't know that, and being a PITA works sometimes. In this case, the cops were pretty clueless.

Different laws apply here in Canada - see this link .

Basically if ya pay with...

$2.00 coins - maximum is $40.00
$1.00 coins - maximum is $25.00
50¢, 25¢ & 10¢ coins - maximum is $10.00
5¢ coins - maximum is $5.00
1¢ coins - maximum is 25¢

Have to remember this at my business although I never have had to deal with that kind of B.S although we have taken a roll of coins here and there from good repeat customers. Of note, we have had several instances of ppl trying to pay for all of their purchase with all coins and we direct them to go across the parking lot to the bank to exchange their rolled coin for bills - having a bunch of rolled coin in my float or night deposit is a pain in the ass.

What the woman clerk "should've" done was get someone else to deal with any other customers and then count out all that guy's pennies out in little piles of 10 - probably would have pissed him off as he was there with 2 buddies and I'm sure their time is worth something. 880 piles - that would take a bit of time especially if some were to spill or be knocked over accidentally.

I think he parked in a no-parking zone since he went to a pub at night. But regardless, point taken.. He deserved the ticket for parking where he shouldn't. He was just being bitch about it cuz he had to walk a couple miles home. Boo hoo.

As for the cops, I found it funny how so many cop cars had to show up just for this
