When the game actually launches, I'll probably find another West server and toss my Asmo's on it. They do allow 8 characters per server, but I'll prolly have 6 all around... 4 Elyos, 2 Asmo :P

Someone is really out of touch with gaming these days...

Girl gamers aren't a myth anymore, not since the late 1990's. If the dude says he and his gf play together, then it's very likely that he and his girl both have accounts and both play.

The point is... couples play MMO's a LOT more than you think. It's one of those few gametypes where the couple can play together, yet still have individual game experiences.

To each their own. I like to balance my characters, tbh. I always have a few male characters and a few female characters. In all honesty, it's quite the trend in MMOs. About 35-40% of male gamers in an MMO will create a female character as their main, and 35-40% of female gamers will make male characters as their main.

Off-topic but... in my last 4 years of wow endgame raiding, I've known around 10 female players and not one played a male character as their main. I'm struggling to even think of any of them having a male character even as a mid to high level alt.

In my most recent guild (Exodus), 6 of our core raiders and another 4 or 5 of the filler raiders were female. And of those 10-11, 6 of them played male characters.

I guess the easiest way to put it is: individual experiences may vary.

I just like to have my first main as a female character, no idea really. Just something about about is traditional with me... my first character in UO was female, then my first character in Earth and Beyond was female, and then Guild Wars, female, EvE Online, female, Planetside, female, Star Wars Galaxies, female, and WoW, female.

Maybe I'm in touch with my inner woman, or maybe it's just that if I'm gonna be watching a character for hours on end, might as well make em nice to look at, or any combination of things, but the fact remains that my first character of any game I intend to play for a while is female.

I've been playing MMO's for YEARS and here's my take on it.

If I'm going to spend countless hours (100's and the rare instance where it's even in the 1000's) I'd rather spend that time looking at a female character then a male one... a little awkward? Absolutely, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people do that (in both genders).

Plus:

MMORPG was described earlier, there's also

GIRL = guy in real life

=P
