Not at all; it means the standard of negative behavior you're accustomed to within your city is very low in comparison to other cities.

Unfortunately, the down side is that every time something to disrupt that standard happens, you'd think your hair was on fire - "The crime in this city, it's so bad!" - meanwhile those of us who have come from places you'd consider half-way to being a ghetto (*cough* Winnipeg) look at it and think "damn, it's nice here".

Obviously someone's never been to East Hastings.

A-ha, I said "half-way" to a ghetto. Vancouver, you're pretty well on the doorstep. I hate that city.

    BUT.....
The nice thing about Van is there all in one area.. In Calgary I find there very spread out. I dont find the NE or east really to be in comparison to east hastings.. Its more like how surrey used to be 15-20 years ago.

... that 'one area' it's concentrated in also happens to be one of the first parts of Vancouver you drive through upon entering from the eastern region. I know, I drove there last summer.

I don't know what you're referring to being spread out in Calgary; there isn't nearly the level of this in Calgary as opposed to Vancouver, there's really not much to 'spread out'.

I lived in Yale town and barely seen a bum. maybe once in a while a night you would see the odd 1, but really it was good. they seemed to stick to there selfs. East hasting though has druggies, bums, etc, but I never really felt threatened by them.

What i ment in calgary is that when I lived downtown a couple years ago they were everywhere. The city pretty turns into a ghost town after 6-7ish and all that is out is bumbs.

I do agree though that Van has a LOT more.

Going back to the NE thing is that the issues isnt the bums, its the other crap that goes down. I mean it isnt that bad, but I wouldent want to park my car outside T&T over night. lol.

Calgary has far more homeless than Vancouver. Under 4000 here...only around 2000 there.

The figures may have changed a little, but that's what they've been the last few years.

Several residents in northeast Calgary awoke on Wednesday to find both the interior and exterior of their vehicles covered in spray paint.

Calgary police said they've received reports of at least eight vandalized vehicles around Templeson Way N.E. and one in the neighbourhood of Monterey.

Sgt. Krista Ryan said the perpetrators punched out locks to gain access to inside the vehicles between 1:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

This. And the fact the CFCN news opened their broadcast at 6pm with a stabbing in the N.E. I'm sure it's just a fluke though.
