Default Tubing in Vang Vieng Cambodia

Has anyone ever done this? You just rent a tube and go down the river hopping from bar to bar which are located on the river banks?

For some reason this doesn't sound very safe...but fun as hell!

I'm planning to go (while on my 7 month trip in Asia) but just wanted to know when would be the best time to go?

I've had friends do it before. They said it was a complete blast. Most of them were too drunk to walk by the end of the river

KILLER time though, its has the excitment/level of drunk of a stampede pub crawl but floating down a river. I had food poisoning at the time and had to take care of drunk friends and still loved it.

Theres a bar every 2-300 meters with locals throwing tires on ropes you can grab to get pulled in. Cheap whiskey buckets, gaint platforms to jump off, zip lines, mud pits and super fun travellers.

Its not cultural, but its a blast. Just be careful, the river is quiet fast/deep if you're there in the rainy season and people do drown from time to time (but a lot of people also smoke a lot of opium, drink when they go...)

I went recently and it was a blast, especially all the zip lines, swinging ropes and this water slide that shot you about 40 feet into the river:

I went 3 times and still never made it down the river cause we'd end up getting so drunk within the first few hours that we'd just party at one or 2 bars all day.

Forgot to mention that if you goto any bar, they want you to stay so bad you get free shots of whiskey as long as you're on their property, and if you buy a beer or something they treat you like kings.
