Default Anyone register a car in US state where they have a vacation home?

Wondering if anyone has registered a vehicle in the US where they have a vacation home.

I checked the DMV site and seems you need greencard or VISA to get ID in order to register.

Anyone else been in this situation? Any solutions or ideas?

    Thanks

I got a car when we bought our home in Phoenix last year. There was no problem with registering the car in Arizona, all you need to do is show your Alberta drivers license and give your Arizona residence.

Yup, family has one in Hawaii. There are few more hoops to jump through for insurance, but registering is easy if you own a place wherever you are registering.

It depends on what state you are trying to register in. Some are more restricted than others.

    Thanks for the info!

How did you handle insurance? Did you insure with the same company as your Canadian vehicle or did you use a US based insurer?

Anyone with experience with other states please let me know as well.

    Thanks again

Yeah I noticed the requirements are different by state too. I'm looking for Nevada since the house is there but wondering if I have to look at other surrounding states just to get this registered since I don't think Nevada will accept my Alberta license (at least that's what it looks like on their DMV site).

I don't think you're going to be able to register in another state with an nevada address, you have to live in the state you register the vehicle in.

Why not just get a Nevada license, I know CA requires you take a driving test, but why not. Then get another AB license when you come back up.

From my interpretation of the info on the Nevada DMV to get a license you need to provide green card or visa. Neither of which I have.

My insurance company here will not insure an American car, I talked to a few companies in Phoenix and went with State Farm.

They gave me a discount because my home was insured with them. They wanted a drivers abstract from Alberta and a letter of good standing from my Alberta insurance company before they would give me a policy.

My insurance company in CA wanted a drivers abstract and all that too... I never did give it to them.

I don't remember if having a visa or green card was needed... I had a work visa anyways, so maybe that was what made the difference.
