I think cruise lines will be permanently damaged by this. You have a lot of time to wait because that knife is going to get stuck in the floor. Having said that... I'm eyeballing Disney, which has a cruise line... and big parks with lots of people in them, and movies that rely on people going to theaters. I think it will take a bad beating for a little while, but once it bottoms will have great rebound potential.
Good point about the cruise industry but I don't think it will be permanently damaged. Some cruise lines have loyal following and will weather this better than others. It will take a few years for the cruise industry to rebound back to where it was just a couple of months ago. Hopefully, the cruise industry will learn from this and come back stronger.

Same .. cruise lines have very loyal following (myself included). A year or 2 from now i think it would be business as usual. Wouldn't mind buying some RCL at some point..definitly not now.

It won't be long before a government announcement specifically for a Air Canada bailout.

I'm just tracking some of the ETFs, do you guys know why there's such a difference between HOU and HOD right now?

With WTI up ~11% so far, HOU.TO is up 22% as it should, but why is HOD.TO down 33%?

Not sure AC really needs a "bail out"
They are sitting on $6BN of cash right now with no debt coming due until next year, i think they look relatively healthy but they'll have no growth and will have to find a way to deal with this reduced revenue.

I hope AC goes bankrupt and is not saved by government, or anyone else.

Why do you hope that? So there is less competition in a market that has barely any competition?

Well, I'm a dreamer, so I'm hoping they go bankrupt, the government allows more global competition, and we'll have better air service.

I don't want to sidetrack this, but if you think that there is any airline out there that is better than AC which is based out of a country with similar labor costs, your kidding yourself.

If it can’t stay afloat without government intervention it deserves to die.

You could say the same thing about Alberta O&G. How much money in tax breaks did we just give them again?

I'd argue it was Government involvement that has killed O&G in Alberta.

You could say the same about any major business though. Mandating that Air Canada must fly unprofitable routes to serve remote communities has hurt AC's bottom line for decades.

I'm not defending the airline's poor quality of services and bad management. I'm just playing devils advocate here.

I'm a big fan of governments not choosing winners and losers in terms of industries or individual companies. Regulate as little as possible, and create a business environment where strong companies can thrive. That's all I ask for.
You guys know I'm an oil and gas guy, but propping up weak companies isn't the answer in any economic cycle.

Sounds like there is going to some sort of bailout/stimulus package for O&G coming next week.

What money did the government give O&G in tax breaks?

    Monday probably, yeah.

Wonder if those who got pay cuts are going to be even more pissed depending on what is announced?

Is that why many of the O&G stocks are going up today?
