All my sound is static

I did a clean install of xp over the weekend and now all sound output is static. I've installed and reinstalled up to date audio drivers from Asrock's website and even reinstalled windows for the hell of it and it's still a problem. My speakers and headphones are operating properly.

Any ideas?

You might have the wrong default output device selected. Most modern audio chipsets do digital or analog output. You can change the default one in the control panel under "hardware and sound."
