Sounds like a problem with the ignition coil. The one you need is an IC-013 and yours will look like this:

Try calling 403-212-4644 (Napa Warehouse, commercial counter) and see if they can interchange it to an Echlin number (the IC13 is NOT the equivalent). They also have an illustrated ignition parts guide from echlin that can be used to confirm a match before dragging a picker out of the DC to grab it.

By the way, does this have the 4 or 3 cylinder?

I love the little buggers, but I've only seen them overseas in running condition. All I can offer is a few pieces of info on them, and my other auto experience. Sorry mate.

PS: You have got balls buying a non-running, non-North American market, as well as rare automobile so props to you for trying to get it going. What inspired you to purchase it if you don't mind me asking?

Answer: Replace Hampster - your current one has died.

Are you sure it's no spark? could it be no fuel - fuel pump or filter.

do these things have a crank sensor? or cam sensor? These could be bad.

Change the damn coil, its cheap and may solve your issues. If the new distributor didn't resolve any issues and you still dont have any spark, that comes next - and besides, its 4 screws and two boots. Easy easy easy.

    Edit:

If you'd like to check it rather than change it, put a voltmeter or a 12v test bulb where it says "test lamp" in the circuit diagram. If you get no results, move your test lamp to the lead going into the coil @ terminal #15 in the diagram. Instant answer as to whether it is your coil, or the power to the coil which is the issue. Keep in mind that the light or meter should go off-on-off twice per revolution. If the light stays on, the points are staying open in the distributor (which likely is NOT the case, saying you have already changed it out).

I also have no idea which technique you used to find out if there was any spark at the plug, but an easy way is to just yank a boot off of one of the existing plugs, and hold it close to grounded metal. Have someone crank it over, and if you manage to get a spark of around or over 3-4mm you should have sufficient spark for detonation.

Double Edit: And like the guy above me said, make sure its not a fuel issue, lol. Back when I had my YJ and it died on the side of the road I did everything from changing my fuel pump to buying a second hand carb to try to resolve the issue. Unfortunatly my "somewhat-functional" fuel gauge deceived me and the only issue was a dry tank of gas.

another to look into is the distributor itself

does it have a hall effect pick-up?

How will you get it registered before 2013? Or is that how much time your giving yourself to get it running?
