Nice design and great handling. There is a lot to like about the mini... unfortunately quality of components is not one of them.

I'm gonna bump this old thread. My brother got a works mini last night, can you guys recommend a good mini forum so he can research upgrades ?
Did some research on it and read there's was lots of premature transmission problems. I mean big problems with lots of wearing and whole replacements needed, metal in the fluid when changed, etc. forget if it was auto or manual or both.
Also that the turbo ones have issues with not starting in cold conditions thought mostly to be condensation in the IC which freezes or something or another. Can't remember but it quickly took it off my list for a winter beater car.
Do some google searches, the problems are there. Might get lucky and have no problems.

07 + are turbo
07 and below are supercharged. Similar numbers to the wheel however.
This post doesn't exactly refer to the bump that was posted today however, my girlfriend has had a 07 Cooper S, and it has been nothing but a nightmare for the winter. Its an absolute luck basis if it starts and wants to drive. The problems are extremely erratic, and dangerous (ie. suddenly no power when traveling at speed).Originally posted by mr2mike

.
The response from the dealer/mini Canada has been pathetic, they have acknowledge the problem, and have stated that there are no solutions to the winter driving problems the car is having. Its a real shame when you can't drive this car for 4 of the cold months of the year. I believe this problem strictly effects the 07+ cooper S, and Clubman.
Maintenance is expensive as well.
Its low therefore residential driving right now is pretty sketch with the 'snow railroad tracks' we have.
Otherwise for the summer it is a competent car with good fit an finish and nice kit. Fun with the nipper performance and phenomenal grip. However, I really do consider it to be a girls/Asian/40 year old man car.

As far as i knew they never changed from supercharged. Do you know why they made the change? Larger power band?Originally posted by scat19

Sorry, I mean the older ones... so Supercharged.
Probably went with turbos now because they know their design is faulty with the supercharger location for winter starts?!? Dunno.
Did a quick search. Ice forms and holds the TB closed on cold starts till the motor warms and melts the ice.

my boss has one of these and it's been no end of problems.
Where the hell were you guys when I asked about them earlier ?
Anyways, hopefully we won't have any problems. The dealership up here in Edmonton is a bitch though.
Yep, exactly, kind of ridiculous that they haven't come up with a fix yet.Originally posted by mr2mike

Yeah! A couple of weekends ago, 2 of my buddies and myself went to test drive the Mini Cooper S. Boy, is it a fast car. I think it is pretty light too and yeah, the pick up on it is great. My expectations for the car totally changed after that. I mean, I've been a fan of the car for a while now but I just couldn't believe it would perform so well.Originally posted by D'z Nutz
We took some mini's on a test drive on the weekend (and even ran into benyl). Fuck, that's a fun car. I totally underestimated how well they'd handle or pick up. Don't bother with the base model.
Also, I saw at the Crowfoot dealership (that is the one I went to) have a special edition Mini Cooper on display. Should check that one out! The interior is so nice and the exterior color choices for the special edition are amazing. To sum it up in one word, sexy! haha.
Sorry for the double post. I just realized the date to the thread and that reading owns me.
Scratch what I said about my brother's car. I hope something terrible happens to the engine so he can get one of these:

Talked to Norman on the phone and he said he has a K24 AWD package coming out for the new minis.
